Sury PHP repo has upgrades already.
I see upgrades also for 7x and 8.0.x, 8.1.x, which I thought are not getting the patch. Unclear what that means, but those updated packages were not there 10min ago, so it seems related to the CVEs?
Fix will be released 14:00 UTC, so 12 minutes from now.
@guenther @albertcardona yes, then we'll have to wait for them to be packaged and available. Meanwhile, I applied the mitigations wherever I could.
HUUUUUUUUGE kudos to the PHP core team! Let's get to patching!

🔹 PHP is a language used to make ~70% of websites. A backdoor has been found allowing an attacker access to any PHP server.
This is so severe that current advice is to take down PHP sites until the fix is released.
When it is released, it only fixes current supported PHP versions. Around half of PHP-based sites still use older versions than this, and they will remain vulnerable until they’re upgraded. (Which may be hard for particularly old software)
Know some stressed infosec/devops people right now? here’s why:
🔹 SSL certificates 🔐 keep the web secure, and keys to 8 of them have been compromised, meaning attackers can impersonate websites & services. Keys are passwords hundreds of characters long, but one of the compromised keys was just the digit “4”.
Firefox, Chrome, & Apple Safari browsers have all applied workarounds; but loads of other stuff relies on these certificates of authenticity and they will need to be manually updated.

PHPocalypse? Is this anything
@jalefkowit No. That’s not a thing.

Lost mastodon.social on tuesday, lost google translate on wednesday. Now using awkward open-source workaround programs that make me accept limitations. I wonder what program I've been using for 10+ years I'll be stopping use of forever on Thursday.

GOOD NEWS, EVERYONE!
I am thrilled to announce that I have successfully converted someone from the meatspace to the quiet pastures of beige.party and the #Fediverse!
She's one of my dearest friends of over *cough* thirty *cough* years, and one of the wisest and also hilarious people I've ever known.
Please give a warm weirdo welcome to @dopaminehouse!!

@dansup where is the source code hosted? I can't find a link to its git repo on the website
I posted another essay to my blog, The Triage Problem. It addresses a critical modularity issue that I feel is at the heart of systematic overconsumption of planetary-level resources in typical LLM architectures.
