but her mother was clearly a good judge of dog character and reassured her that this dog clearly would never bite her and to keep petting him

Damn it, I thought of a really good meme but it's from The Forbidden Media so it'd just piss people off now.

I do have to disagree with this post, I think it's you who need more research if you really think that kickstarter suggests they haven't heard of the fediverse.

Haven: Better Instagram & YouTube, to Stop AI & Surveillance
Social media that prevents Big Tech & AI from stealing your art, your biometrics, and your privacy. We're replacing Insta and YouTube.

The fediverse does NOT prevent big tech and ai from stealing your stuff. it actually makes it easier. They just need a covert shell instance to subscribe to stuff and the fediverse hands everything to them for free, including your votes.

I'm all for the fediverse myself, but that's because I don't personally care about this that much. If I did, I wouldn't want to be here where we're the most vulnerable out of anywhere.

I choose not to use AI tooling for retro stuff. I think it’s better to leave some spaces where history can be preserved.

I shared a link from NPR Tiny Desk but there was no image preview or video embed. After investigating this I learned that when you do that, each instance picks up the link and individually retrieves the link preview nearly simultaneously. For gargantuan sites like YT or Reddit, this is a trivial amount of traffic and not a problem, but for smaller sites like NPR this results in a sort of botnet DDOS attack on the site’s servers. More here. Another example here . For that reason, NPR has blocked Fediverse servers like Mastodon.

I have experienced this on my personal server as well (DDOS), but at the time didn’t know why, exactly.

This isn’t the end of the world, but certainly is not great and hurts engagement with the content. Is there a solution for this? Perhaps using some sort of webtorrent service like PeerTube where they just fetch the information from another fediverse server instead of the source server? Maybe fetching embeds client-side? At least that would stagger the requests.

One Industrial band I liked back in the 90s (maaaahn) put out a song that was just the lyricist's public key fingerprint.
