reminder to bsky ppl:
Wafrn can connect with Bluesky, you can move your account here, keep your data and followers, and also be independent from bsky the company
just check the video of alexia posting to wafrn, and it being on bsky after:
#wafrn #bsky
@stefano you mentioned before about charging for fixing AI screw ups. Did you do it? 😅
@zolotkey 😆 no, those are good guys. They don't deserve that. We all make mistakes.
BREAKING: After five days on the job, White House Press Secretary Katie Zacharia has been fired
Why are only positive reactions allowed on the #Signal forum?
@light Isn't it a feature of all Discourse forums?
@gabek @lislegaard @ChrisWere looks like it happened around 2024-03-09. The table was moved to he ActivityPub page, though Owncast isn't listed there anymore either.
Hey #NetBSD users,
can you share with a n00b how you keep your hosts patched and up to date?
I am used to use freebsd-update/pkgbase and have tried syspatch on OpenBSD once, but here I am completely clueless. 🫠
In #Persian, we've got a saying "A handful, a sample of the pile". It's for generalization of a small sample to a whole group.
For instance, I see few math students who use a small whiteboard. I say "See! This is a handful, a sample of the pile". Here I'm saying most(or all) math students use a small whiteboard.
What are the equivalent sayings in #BritishEnglish, #AmericanEnglish, #IrishEnglish and #AustralianEnglish?
What about other languages? If you are a native speaker, what similar saying or proverb have you got in your language?
If you like, a boost will be good :)

How are we halfway thru #October already?!
@peteorrall "time flies" - but it's true!
you can keep your accooountttt, and your followers and all your posts, and you can write posts that are longer than 300 characterrsss and you can restrict your posts to be visible to followers only (if your followers are on wafrn or fedi), and you can do fun css crimes
bluesky sucks, and everyone on bluesky is complaining about how much bluesky sucks, because the developers are VC-funded transphobic AI accelerationists, wafrn and many of its instances are developed and moderated by furries, queers and gabbo, it's a much easier and gentler transition than X->Bluesky because you're not giving up anything
@stefano@bsd.cafe ooh! In that case... Hello Stefano's customer!
We all here consider Stefano one of the nicest and most trust worthy people on the internet!
He's worth listening to, that is for certain!

@stefano
They learned the hard way, but at least they learned! Sometimes that's the only way.
@MostlyTato The most important thing is that they learned and nothing was destroyed. Now they know. They're good people, and I'm sure they won't do it again.
Anyway, this week has also brought many really positive things.
Yesterday morning I had a meeting with a public institution. The people in charge are really good, both technically and as human beings. We've known each other for almost 20 years, and we've been working together ever since.
"The institutions above us are pushing to move everything to closed solutions. We see things differently.
We'll keep running our email with open source solutions, just as we've done until now, without problems. We'll keep using LibreOffice, providing Open Source operating systems on the PCs in our libraries, managing our files and collaboration with systems like Nextcloud.
We don't want to depend on closed clouds run by third-party companies.
We want our consultants working on our machines, looking after our data. Not their consultants working on their machines, with our data inside, which effectively becomes theirs.
Can you keep supporting us?"
I had a late lunch.
But the photos of my lunch should make it pretty clear what my answer was, and how happy I was to give it.
They're not refusing to move forward. They're refusing to follow the trend of locking themselves into someone else's cage.
Luckily, the world is also full of really good people.
@stefano it's weird running into people who take "The Cathedral and the Bazaar" seriously
@mxchara it's an example we used to use 25 years ago.
@stefano I can only imagine.
« May I share this user experience within our network on the fediverse in order to improve our response accuracy to customers and people around the world ? »
Customer is heard typing and mumbling "Is it good to share what you just did with my remote machine ?"
AI says "Most definitely ! A user experience as good as this one can only improve global security ! Do you want to know more about cybersecurity ?"
Customer: « Most definitely ! »
And a toot was posted.
@eidolies 😆
The truth is: the customer said "now go and publish this on your Cafe".
"Hey, I'm quite sure many others will read it"
He, smiling: "Sure, we deserve it".
And I'm sure he's reading the entire thread, as I sent the link 😉
Slackware + Btrfs subvolumes.
I wrote a short guide for installing Slackware64-current with @ and @home using the standard installer.

@stefano i mean, at least the Linux kernel was developed by a team of professionals in the first place, rather than some kid in his bedroom arrogant enough to argue with the guy who literally wrote the book on operating system design
