Getting ready to drive to the middle of Oregon (almost exactly the geographical center) for the grand finale flights of the human-ashes-dispersing rocket. Estimated altitude over 8000'.
George got a GPS tracker which will make it easy for me to find the thing amidst the sagebrush.
@liaizon You mean, like French administration that refused breton names because they do not allow some special symbols to *preserve* french language from *pollution* that comes from french minority languages ?
Where can I automatically render the object directly, while loading the page, instead of clicking on the load bar first?
@rapha3l in user preferences, you can set a file size up to which you want to load automatically. That should do it!
@rileytestut lolsob, i woke up too late to get a 1TB in a reasonable time. didn’t try to look at the smaller sizes to see if they were any better tho

Brendan Larsen from Ngāmotu in Aotearoa and a member of the New Plymouth Astronomical Society took this stack over a couple of hours and estimates 14000 satellite trails. This is how bad it is now, it's set to get much much much worse - and then we lose Low Earth Orbit until the mess cleans itself up, if it cleans itself up. No weather satellites for forecasting, no GPS, and definitely no crewed spaceflight. All because of ego and greed. It must be stopped.

We're in 2026 and this still happens...
"A weak administrator password is linked to a major Danish data breach that exposed information tied to about 8.8 million national identification numbers."
"At least three accounts at Pays, an IT company on the island of Funen, reportedly used “123456”, including an administrator account."
"The case shows how poor security at a company with trusted access can place a national database at risk."

We truly are living in the future
@hungryjoe that and the flying cars! 😬
@aerofreak No. The picture of the kitten originated with me. @eclectech worked her very talented magic, as she does with hats and scribbles, to make it appear as though the kitten is wearing the hat. Zero AI involved
Ok, looks like this is the week of funny experiences.
Customer: "I had an AI check our server and it says the SSH port is open and that's not very secure."
Me: "Yes, you asked us to open it so you could access the server via SFTP (actually, you wanted FTP, but we discussed it a bit and found this compromise). Don't worry, it's only accessible from your IP and you land in a dedicated FreeBSD jail. From there, you can only access the 'exchange' directory on your server, where you can upload and download files without affecting the application."
(NB: I had suggested a VPN, but they declined because it was too complicated.)
Customer: "Yes, but maybe it's still insecure. Can't we close it?"
Me: "No, unless you want to lose access to that directory."
Customer: "Ok, thanks."
One hour later:
Customer: "Hi, I think we've found a solution. We've just created an app (!!!) with AI that lets us access the files anyway, but more securely than SSH (!!!). Can we install that and close SSH? Oh, and not in the dedicated jail, but directly in the application's jail, because it needs access to the application's files."
Me: "Frankly, I trust SSH in a dedicated jail, restricted by the firewall, a lot more. I don't think this is a good idea."
Customer: "Ok, thanks."
Half an hour later:
Customer: "Ok, now it's secure. I had another AI check it and it found some security issues, but it fixed them all. Can you install it and disable SSH?"
Me: "I strongly advise against it. I can see problems coming."
Customer: "Ok, thanks."
One hour later, my phone rings.
Their internal IT guy (who has access to the machine, which, after all, belongs to them) had given the AI the login credentials to go ahead with the operation.
Except the AI had managed to lock itself out via the firewall, without even starting the app. And now they couldn't get back in.
Fortunately, I had my own access, via VPN, to a separate jail that the AI hadn't touched (or even considered).
Customer: "SORRYSORRYSORRYSORRYSORRY! From now on, we do things your way."
Well, at least it ended well.
PS: The customer knows I'm sharing this story and agreed to it.
Meet Lucy. Lucy is a little concerned about whether she's got the spell right. Will keep trying.
@CStamp Umm, if it had the private keys, it did own the wallet. That's how magic toy money works. 🤡 🙃
@dalias I think @CStamp means that it was a test network, so it wasn't a network which held instruments that had serious exchangeable financial worth.
That said, this is exactly the type of thing I am anticipating will happen with *real* money (state fiat and cryptocurrencies) with Cloudflare's "wallets for agents" stuff they announced
