What I find most interesting is a phrase like «This is NOT some kind of “social warrior” project, never has been, and never will be.». If you lurk on /r/linux, you can see the general right-wing sentiment growing, complaining about "political" or social issues getting raised. There is a clear, slow direction that the leadership of the project is taking, and, in his words, "the genie is out of the bottle".
My unit test did not catch it, as it was not TDD and didn't test full boundary conditions and weird data.
Going faster always goes slower.

Leaving aside i) their obvious incentive to overinflate / scare and ii) this "cost" is also an investment / bootstrap of a new digital economy, it is funny to put in perspective of what bigtech is spending:

@futurebird You may have met this before, I got it from Altemeyer's The Authoritarians, but apparently it's a common error in authoritarian followers to say "I know B is true, I know A is true, therefore B must imply A".
There's a form of grief about the state of the climate, the species we killed with our actions, the damage we've done to the ecosystem. Grief about not what we "lost" but what we destroyed (often through negligence).
I do feel a very similar kind of grief when I think about "AI" and what its usage does to our cultural expression and our collaborative infrastructures.
