Amazing how we went from "programming is so easy everyone can do it, get it into every grade early to reduce the pay of programmers" to "programming is hard, and also we're still not going to pay programmers".
@gabboman@gabboman.xyz yep I know, but it's fine, all I need is mastodon-like oauth and /api/v1/accounts/verify_credentials, which all works totally fine with wafrn in my testing 😊
when Wafrn can replicate the experience of logging in to tumblr on a weekday morning and your dash is unexpectedly bangin' with post after post after post of 😙🤌 good stuff, I will know my dream for fedi since roughly 2018 - a true tumblr workalike plus a big enough back catalog of posts to feed it - has been created.
I have UX thoughts on accomplishing this, I had a long discussion on my main with the Wafrn guy (sorry I forgot your handle even tho we are myoots I think) about the biggest one (tumblr-style reblog chain); and the other one involves making tumblr-style replies parse visually more like tumblr. and also we need schedule & queue features on complete parity with tumblr.
but anyway. I need to do another periodic search for aethetic posters and reblog curators since I'm one of those tumblrinas. we'll get to where I hope we're going, I believe it. and fedi will be made infinitely richer when we do.

I wonder what this new buttons do on the web
Does anyone I know host an instance of one of the following fedi servers (or can recommend an open-signup one)? I could use a test account on each one to test my API client for compatibility. Ideally with split-domain setup, if supported.
@fugi@fed.amazonawaws.com
wafrn does not have split domain setup. https://app.wafrn.net only requires you to not use a vpn on registration
also: mastoapi on our side is far from done (search not done yet)

@cwebber My history is in both academic computer science and physics, and in both fields attribution is *paramount*. Reviewers will, correctly, hold papers back from publication if work isn't cited properly, especially if it's the reviewer's own work :)
Of course in practice some things things slip by, work is stolen between peers and between professors and students all the time, but the intention is understood and important.
This inability to cite is perhaps the first thing that bothered me about LLMs. Code isn't cited, books and articles aren't cited, websites and blogs aren't cited (in addition to stealing meaningful traffic from them while paradoxically hammering them with scraping requests). It all goes to these companies' fundamental business model, which of course boils down to capitalism's standard procedure - steal the commons, then sell it back to us.
Submitting Delta 2.0 to the App Store🤞
lol the “What’s New” section is *just* under the character limit, now that’s a good update
I feel somewhat different about the whole issue, and I want to underline something:
Permissive licenses are about developer freedom, but copyleft licenses are about user freedom. I care about user freedom more than developer freedom.
Another angle is, if I create a tool/library and I share it for free, it's GPLv3. User freedom is non-negotiable plus, I don't want my free work to be sold to anyone. It's created to be free as in beer and as in speech.
I don't allow otherwise.
@bayindirh yes, I am one of the people who popularized "user freedom" as a term, partly in my talks about copyleft.

@jonobennett @pikesley only if you can make your own panko. Has to be panko.
@cwebber It is an interesting thought & problem.
The issue with any licensing is firstly enforceability & legality. Just because you put something in a license file doesn't mean you can enforce (as in courts would rule in your favour).
Big OSS licenses have the advantage of being legally verified and supported by precedent.
@ilia These clauses already exist in prominent, and previously enforced, licenses. We didn't add anything, just called attention to the clauses.
(And yes, I have done a substantial amount of work on FOSS licensing issues.)
FediDB has been updated, and now includes 388 software projects and a cleaner design! Spread the word!
@dansup where does this come from? What are "federated timelines", Smithereen never had these
@pikesley wasn’t he in NWA
