@cwebber but ultimately i'm not interested in taking anyone to court. i don't have the money to burn for that, and the impact on my health would probably be unlikely to have been worth it to me. so all i get out of a license is a statement of intent. people generally are good about respecting the intent of the license, so that's worked out well so far (even if it's been mostly not applicable anyway). but these ai companies don't give a shit, and i'm at a loss of what to do about it
FediDevs
These are the people building the Fediverse!
@pikesley ooh I have not tried those. This is my go to: https://www.the-independent.com/life-style/food-and-drink/recipes/chicken-katsu-curry-1919371.html
@cwebber Attribution is pretty much the only thing I ever cared about (and I still care about it, very much). I also do not believe prominent people when they say they "don't care" about attribution. Like, really? So if someone had never credited your work your entire career and/or claimed it for themselves, you think you'd be in the same position as you are now? Or is attribution only important when you're on your way up the ladder?
I have a *lot* of feelings on attribution, in fact.
@cwebber and the idea that the outcome of this is my work being slurped up into a training set for my contributions to be misattributed to the theft machine, and nobody knowing i exist is not ok
Earlier this month, FreeBSD was represented at IndiaFOSS 2026, where community member Shane Cardoz helped coordinate a FreeBSD booth over two days of the conference.
The booth gave attendees an opportunity to explore FreeBSD firsthand, with live demonstrations highlighting features such as Jails and ZFS.
A big thank you to Shane and everyone who helped represent FreeBSD and connect with the open-source community at IndiaFOSS 2026!
How you vibe prepare the Tiramisu is done like this:
- Get it out of the fridge 30 minutes before consuming
- Make sure you have good company, perhaps a nice drink to your liking
- Put on some lovely background music
- Enjoy the Tiramisu
That is how proper vibing is done.
@h3artbl33d totally agree!
step 1: open Claude Code
step 2: generate Linux drivers because that’s all it’s trained on
step 3: submit to tech@ and get flamed by Theo
step 4: profit??
@darkuncle @h3artbl33d after all, it’s Fish Linux, isn’t it?
FediDB has been updated, and now includes 388 software projects and a cleaner design! Spread the word!
@gabboman@gabboman.xyz Feature request, something better than this (see screenshot). This is what I get when I delete a post, and while there's nothing wrong with it, it does seem a bit… Inelegant? I mean why not default to my blog or dashboard, or something else rather than a 404 error?

@chuff@bark.wolp.chat
A “this post couldn’t be found” would be better text i guess. But the page needs to be a 404 in case someone shares a link
@stefano @h3artbl33d Well, it looks like someone beat you to this. 😎

"So I took the 5.5 code and ported it to -current with a lot of help from ChatGPT o3. After a few days of refactoring it builds!“
@Linkshaender @h3artbl33d whoa...
@hypolite thank you! just trying to build back up the confidence to just do things really
Do you still remember those elite commandos that came to rescue you yesterday, when you were experiencing severe distress?
Well, now even they know you are beyond saving. This is a photo of them when they heard about this Toot.
@h3artbl33d 😆
Ok, ok. Let's re-phrase it:
"How to vibe prepare a Tiramisu and eat it, without using Rust".
No, I don't like rusty Tiramisu

It is always a pleasure for @regento to help organizations fight for the public good, particularly in the Free & Open Source software movement and digital public infrastructure building. We also enjoy helping organizations that align with the various UN sustainable development goals we support!

did you know that Linus Torvalds, boy genius, thinks you need an LLM to do an incredibly basic thing that we’ve been doing in IDEs an editors since the 80s? https://peoplemaking.games/@clayote/117439268154603995
maybe we should stop assuming this guy was ever good at anything, honestly
AI boosters love humiliating themselves by insisting you need their shit to do something you can do faster and better with an editor you know how to use, and now torvalds is doing it too

We now note that that we do not waive our attribution requirements for Spritely Goblins, which are present in Apache v2 (and for that matter, CC BY, CC BY-SA, and most FOSS licenses) https://codeberg.org/spritely/goblins/pulls/998/files
So if you train on our codebase, you have to retain attribution, which we consider the most important requirement to motivate development of technology in the commons.
If, somehow, you are using a statistical soup which has no way to preserve attribution, well, we don't permit or approve of dropping such a requirement, and actually, the licenses we use never have.
Thanks also @davidrevoy for inspiring adding such a notice https://framapiaf.org/@davidrevoy/117440226629383529
I'm considering a presentation for EuroBSDCon 2027. The title could be:
"How to vibe code an OpenBSD Bluetooth Driver".
@h3artbl33d - I think you second this, don't you? 😆
