@mossfet @dragon It was the first public demo because it was meant to show off a direction we're working towards. @dthompson has been doing a lot of research into CRDTs and they are indeed a big part of our plans.
Our perspective is this isn't a one-or-the-other thing, to really break out off this hellhole you need to compose them
@mossfet @dragon We're doing both local-first CRDT stuff *and* networked ocaps https://spritely.institute/news/composing-capability-security-and-conflict-free-replicated-data-types.html

If "AI" were a mere tool and not a political narrative you wouldn't need to headline "X used AI to do Y" all the time. Anything anyone does while "AI" is involved must reify "AI"'s power and relevance.
Because it's not "just a tool", it's a bigger project of disenfranchisement some willingly embrace.
@gabboman@gabboman.xyz
if this is anything like the adobe/office suite replacements made by AI, I definitely don't wanna have them on my PC lol
linux support at least is cool tho
@anubiarts@app.wafrn.net
they seem to have started into adding anticheat to linux, so its… interesting.
i have some games on epic that i enjoy (some I bought there when they were exclusive, some i bought because i had a coupon, and, some that @TimSweeneyEpic@mastodon.gamedev.place @timsweeny.bsky.social personaly gave me

In order to search for a string in some files, use 'grep' like this:
grep "string" filename1 [filename2 filename3 ...]
This will print out the lines in the files that contain the string. grep can
also do a lot more advanced searches - type 'man grep' for details.
As part of my history project, I posted scans of source listings of the Knowledge-Based Editor (KBE) that I worked on while I was at MIT.
https://github.com/netsettler/netsettlement/tree/main/kbe
There is a README.md explaining about the project and the status of the files and their permitted use.
In parallel, there's also an OCR'd version and a preliminary version of a headless port to SBCL done by Jeff Shrager. He was holding it until I got my sources up. Details on that coming soon.

@mhoye It's a phenomenon I'm seeing a lot in FOSS circles lately: LLMs amplify a benevolent dictators ability to handle things on their own, which feeds into their need for control. That can manifest as anything from unwillingness to share work, to outright messages of hostility to potential recruits.
At least delaying (while being cautious) is an acceptable approach. I wish I had engaged a bit more so I could influence the process now --- but I have unfortunately zero patience with cultists and that's likely a certain percentage of the participants in ANY discussion on AI use. So maybe it's better like this.
I'll, anyway build my virtualization server on FreeBSD for the moment. As Linux user of 3 decades that's really breaking my heart, but what can I do. My trust that the Linux community will take the right decisions (and in my case that would mean: Following a Unix philosophy) has definitely run out, after: Gnome, Wayland, Systemd and now the AI use thing all over the place. Not that the ideas were always wrong, but, my God, the implementation and the politics.
The important thing to me is, that changes are thought through .... instead of being the next super-feature required by some corporate interest. And while I see this in the BSDs (I am a bit of a hobby historian) Linux has been failing us there for a long time (I partly blame Redhat).
@glitzersachen unfortunately, many actors in the Linux world are now distant from the original Unix philosophy. Posix doesn't mean much anymore, and portability is not that important.
Years ago, Linux people were so disappointed by the "Windows only" approach that used to be more attentive to the other Unices' compatibility. Now, many just say "Just use Linux". Which is unacceptable. Not because I don't want to use Linux (I actually do!), but because you're transforming yourself in what once was your worst enemy.
I'm choosing FreeBSD and illumos based OSes for most of my workloads, and OpenBSD, NetBSD for the ones that make them appropriate. Linux for the others.
There are plenty of good alternatives to driving your community off a cliff like a gaggle of demographic lemmings, but if you're still convinced that mailing lists and insularity are the path to durability in this godforsaken year of our lord two thousand and twenty six then I'm not sure what words will convince you that there's nothing at the bottom of that cliff but sharp rocks and seawater.
If your community isn't accessible and welcoming to new, learning participants, the clock's ticking.
