Quite a few people have sent me the "Passkeys are a trap. Do not use them." post on Substack.

The post recommends people abandon passkeys and stick to passwords + TOTP, citing what appears to be concerns with attestation as the primary reason.

I’ve written a rebuttal as this is really dangerous advice and it's based on some incorrect technical claims.

I have played with hiding the hexes in the scenery of the map before, but not to this extreme. Hex maps are challenging, but I love the look, so I’ll try this again. @jdw @kobold yeah, the logs could probably reveal what the issue is. My guess would be, since Tuba doesn't actually handle image decoding itself, probably something to do with glycin and maybe a misconfigured setup outside of flatpak or a missing sandboxing feature on host

@hypolite I think the Google story was a big (media) thing for a few weeks 15 years ago and threw a wrench in Google’s plans back then. Before and after that, though, nobody cared. Nowadays, Google Street View photos are everywhere. All the “alternative” street-view services like Mapillary and Panoramax fly completely under the public radar and therefore don’t have any acceptance issues, since simply no one knows about them...
