I'm helping a friend in configuring a new HP printer but after multiple hours of attempts we're still having serious issues: the print refuses to print anything colored and the app get stuck when I try to open printer settings or diagnostics, multiple reinstalls and different version failed to help.
In multiple online places I read how HP printers got worse with aggressive DRM, pushing of subscriptions and other BS. On top of that the setup of the printer seems pointlessly convoluted: instead of installing a driver and letting Windows printing dialog handle the rest this printer insists in installing a sort of HP "virtual printer" which redirects any printing request to their (fragile) app which is the piece of software that ultimately communicates with the printer.
I'm not sure whether this pile of pointless complexity has something to do with the problems I'm encountering but at this point I'm out of options (even because we live 300km apart so all I can do is help her by phone and RustDesk). I'm considering to convince her in returning the printer to the store (a big box electronic store which a permissive return policy) and to avoid another "lemon" get it replaced with a printer of a different brand.
Do you have any advice of a more customer friendly printer brand?
