@hypolite I have visited Budapest a long time ago but never made it to the grand hotel. Maybe it's a sign!
FediDevs
These are the people building the Fediverse!

I heard some people say that if there is one photo of you online then it doesn't matter if you post more "since your face is already in their system" they say this to feel better about posting lots of photos and video.
However this isn't true. Less information is better. If there are only a few photos of you then you can know which one someone was using, and photos grow out of date with time.
Less is better unless you have a good reason to put your face out there. It's not futile.

I read some post about how Mastodon consists primarily of German-speaking creatures talking in English. I'm gonna do a poll, need to test that. Boosts highy appreciated!
So, do you speak German?
@ianthetechie if I understood correct, they used then api and let an agent run for…days?
@ltning oops too late! 😂
@jonny I have refused to use fingerprint signons for as long as they have existed after slicing the side of my fingertip off with a potato peeler in my early twenties and having the skin grow back without a fingerprint. I initially thought it was too risky because fingerprints were too likely to change, but everything I've learned since about data privacy has validated my kneejerk decision so I guess that potato peeling accident did me a favour
@jonny If my fingerprints actually work to unlock any of my devices it means I haven't spent enough time climbing recently.
When pastors do their incantations live on TV and everyone faint, why is it always excepts for the camera(wo)men? Do they only hire atheist camera handlers?
{...facepalm...}
Oh, lordy, what an incredibly *bad* idea. This will not end well.
I have just uttered the sentence “They have a different relation to skeletality than we do,” and this is how I know that I’ve Still Got It.
Today was kickoff session of my seminar on #AlternativeSocialMedia at #UniversityHamburg. Course has 145 applications for 30 places 🤯.
Unscientific poll finds most students spent 2-3h daily with social media, basically none spent less than 1h. 3 platforms absolutely dominate (guess which).
We are going to work out problems, possible solutions (or at least alleviating these) in a better design, exploring alternatives and getting your feet wet in the Fediverse. And we are even going to have a guest lecture (thanks @Kudusch)!
Looking forward to the rest of the course!
@spaeth Exciting! 🙂 Love to hear good things from my alma mater.
I imagine you probably won't have time in the semester for a second guest speaker, but if you can ever think of a way for me to help out constructively (maybe something about how open social protocols work and why it matters?), I'd love to come by! Perhaps in a future iteration of the seminar.
I got a call from someone I don't know.
"Hi. We have a FreeBSD server. It's been working perfectly for years, but it hasn't been updated since then. We asked AI to update it, but now it won't boot anymore. It didn't even make a backup before starting. The AI keeps trying things, everything is down, and we've already spent over €500 in tokens. Can you help us?"
"Sure. €500, plus the time it'll take me to try to fix it. Assuming it can still be fixed and nothing important has been deleted."
"That much?"
Some silence.
"Well, I hope AI takes your job away!" And he hung up.
Believing that autopilot automatically makes you an invulnerable professional pilot will ruin far more people than job losses will.
I don't know if AI will take my job away, but it's already cost them €500 and, probably, their server.
5 minute sketch
continue to be incredibly disappointed by how many people will put ethics a distant third after their entertainment and convenience & also
how many of them are not embarrassed to just come out and say that, with a tone that implies that they're the ones who are taking some sort of moral high ground
