dishwasher is broken.
call a repairman.
he arrives in a week.
looks at the dishwasher.
pulls out his phone and opens chatgpt.
types something for a while.
says it can't be fixed and i need a new dishwasher.
pay him $200.
continue washing dishes in the sink.
everything is streamlined now.
@cheeaun I'm using Vite/Vue with bun 🤣 with pnpm files. I've never used the bun locked files to stay compatible. Maybe should try pnpm again.
@hboon lol i don't even know bun works with pnpm 😂
I think I just pity library authors need to handle all of this mess 🙈
@cheeaun one could also interpret them as: bookmarking holds your place within a larger context (a page in a book, or a page within a website), and saving holds the thing itself outside of its original context (like a post outside of its original place in the timeline)
I’ve also never been a fan of websites reusing the names of established web browser features (like bookmarks) for their own, different features.
@dale_price I also wanted to raise the point about bookmarks in browsers vs websites, but back then, social bookmarking sites were kinda trendy so it "makes sense" I guess 🤷♂️
If going back even further, Internet Explorer uses "favourites" and Netscape uses "bookmarks"… 🙈👴
It's mine and Julie's 29th Wedding anniversary today and apparently the gift is furniture? I wonder if purchasing a new front and back door counts as we had to purchase earlier last week? 😂
@justine happy anniversary!!!
Enshittification is the intentional degradation of products as companies shift focus from pleasing consumers to maximizing profits for shareholders.
The Norwegian Consumer Council hate enshittification and they're using humour to fight it.

@django @betula to be honest, I'm not quite sold on this idea. I would rather have a super-good (semantic?) search on bookmarks than spending time on organizing bookmarks.
Also it can get annoying when you spent time organising and some of them are gone due to being deleted/reported (this happens on twitter, tiktok, youtube…).
It's confusing that despite "bookmark" saves a reference, but backend-wise, it saves a copy (federated) but users won't know that.
@cheeaun I miss the old floppy disc save icon, but probably no one would know what that means, anymore

I dont think online is a core feature. Its a lovely augment. For evidence i give you... Today.
We sre bodies that live and breathe, snd the idea that being online could replace that, is the same core foolishness behind the confusion surround us as intelligent beings vs language models. Bodies are not mobile hosts for disembodied souls. Our bodies are us. We need to see and smell snd touch each other.
People need to hang out. Done and done.
Any alleged process intended to be done only online i think is doomed to fail. Culture involves people.
@tomjennings yes! I had a whole other tangent I didn't go on about how I have in fact moved some of my creative practice to hyper local, embodied stuff
@cheeaun would be interesting to be able to organize bookmarks though!
🤔 2 cents:
- "Bookmark" saves a *reference* but it gives the impression that you need to organize them later.
- "Save" saves a *copy* but it gives the impression that you can just look it up later.
- Logically, “Save” sounds wrong because saved posts are kinda ephemeral — they can be edited, deleted, reported, etc.
- However, “Save" feels *lighter* than “Bookmark” because it doesn’t require organising them, so there's less friction for users to use it.
Twitter’s “Bookmark” may just be legacy.

@cheeaun One problem I had with "bookmark" is the apple localization glossary has some translations that are the same as for "favorite". I was thinking of switching to "save" earlier but didn't want to confuse mastodon users who see bookmark everywhere else.
@fedicat I think as long as the bookmark icon 🔖 is the same, that's fine?
Technically we already have the "like" vs "favourite" and ⭐ vs ❤️ inconsistencies for the past few years, so adding another one is probably… not a big deal 🤣
Now I'm debating to use "Unsave" or "Remove from Saved" 🤔
