@glyph @jalefkowit I don't think it's relevant to the point of the post - whether it "solves" or not, this stuff does contribute to the collapse of intellectual community.

I disagree with the author's implication that LLMs have solved software engineering, but I'm able to bracket that since the point of his post is about living in a world where "AI" (whether it works or not) contributes to the collapse of intellectual community.

After a couple weeks of procrastinating, I finally migrated my NetBox instance from the Ubuntu 22.04 Proxmox LXC old to the new #FreeBSD 15.1 Jail.

The old NetBox instance was still on v4.1.7, because I would have needed to upgraded Postgres 14 to a later version.

Fortunately, the only thing I had to do was to dump the old netbox database and restore it into the Postgres 18 DB inside the jail, and copy all the images from .../media/devicetype-images over.

The Jails runs v4.6.10 and simply running "manage.py migrate" once after restoring the data was all it took.

Now I can finally shut down my Proxmox VE server, as all services have been migrated to my FreeBSD NAS / home server. 😁

@twistylittlepassages in the meantime, if you search for RSS "daily digest" tools, that is the magic phrase for software that turns a spammy feed into a once a day aggregate summary

Good post that gets into the futility I feel when I try to do something creative online anymore. I'm less and less motivated to do things like write a blog or build software tools. I've found myself without much of a creative community since 2020 for a variety of societal and personal reasons. My attempts at private intellectual life have crashed and burned. I really do need creative community but I don't want to feed the plagiarism machine. Not really sure what to do.

Remember, the fedi is ephemeral. It's valid to change instances if the one you're on doesn't fit your needs. There's a whole slew of communities out there!
