FediDevs
These are the people building the Fediverse!
At the beginning of this year, Kevin Roose, @caseynewton.bsky.social@bsky.brid.gy and PJ Vogt launched a fediverse instance, The Forkiverse. Now, they're shutting it down.
Here's PJ's conversation with @mmccue.bsky.social@bsky.brid.gy for #DotSocial about the experiment.

Divide and concur — this radical plan from 1920, for "lasting peace" after WW1, proposed uniting central Europe into 24 wedge-shaped cantons which would radiate out from Vienna’s St. Stephen’s Cathedral: https://publicdomainreview.org/collection/unionization-of-central-europe/
@publicdomainrev it's beautiful
To help with the Forkiverse experiment, the Search Engine/Hard Fork teams talked to two experts: @evan@cosocial.ca and @iftas.org@bsky.brid.gy's Jaz-Michael King.

please feel free to make this movie, graphic novel, what have you
years ago I thought up a plot for a historical-fiction comedy film or something
Mid-20th century US: a few out-of-work fashion designers & photographers & editors find out that a painter friend is getting CIA money to do abstract expressionist painting, + a fiction teacher pal in Iowa is getting government funding for similar soft power reasons. They put together a hoax that the Soviet Union is trying to infiltrate Western fashion and get all our women to wear saggy grey &c., diminishing American beauty, undermining our culture, etc.
they successfully pitch US intelligence and ask for funding for their magazine/shows/etc. to counter the Soviet Fashion Menace
climax is at a big international conference/expo where they find out there are a ton of other groups all over both sides of the Cold War running the same scams on their governments to get funding for dance, music, sculpture, photography, all the fine arts, and all collude to keep it going

Speaking of cars (again): I can’t comprehend the current design obsession of having such small windows, especially in the rear. I know that there are cameras and sensors aiding you when parking, but still, I’d much prefer more glass real estate. The interior would also feel much less dark and claustrophobic.
The other day we had this car ahead of us. It’s a Seat 124 (aka Fiat 124, ВАЗ-2101, Lada 1200 etc.). You may dislike its boxy, 'dated' looks, but look at the windows! It's a greenhouse!
@morrick oh these used to be literally everywhere in Russia

Another successful week, by at least one measure.
Hello folks!
We've just made a security bugfix release of #GoToSocial, v0.22.2 Shrubbiest Sloth!
https://codeberg.org/superseriousbusiness/gotosocial/releases/tag/v0.22.2
We recommend everyone on v0.22.1 and lower who uses two-factor authentication (2FA) for their account to update to this release ASAP. We fixed a two-factor authentication (2FA) security bug whereby an attacker who already knows a victim's email address + password, ie., the first factor authentication, could bypass having to input a code from an authenticator app, ie., the second factor of authentication, and obtain an OAuth token for that account. This bug only affects 2FA, and again, only in cases where an attacker already knows their victim's email address + password.
Update instructions are in the release notes: it's a nice easy update if you're already on v0.22.x; and if you're already on main snapshots, just update to latest commits and you're good.
Thanks for reading <3
Spoiler: Die taz hat bei allen CDU-Abgeordneten nachgefragt und 8 sagen, sie hätten sich enthalten. Gab aber nur 5 Enthaltungen insgesamt.

The new Tiguan EV does a lot better than the outgoing ID.4 on my EV Stupidity Checklist.

EV Stupidity Checklist
@siracusa having a new ID3.Neo since last week, which uses the same platform and their new design principles as the new Tiguan, I can confirm it’s a pleasure to use and checks all your boxes. Really happy to have an EV without those futuristic gimmicks. Real door handles! Physical buttons on the steering wheel and for the main controls! No shiny black plastic (except on the key…)
