and I think that this is part of the big disconnect and major source of friction between some ideologically-based communities, i.e. AI proponents and never-ai adherents: one group thinks they are sharing and thus exhibiting care while the other group interprets what is being shared as a strong signal that the person sharing doesn’t care about the same things as they do. I honestly believe that most people who are reaching to the current swarm of AI technologies being foisted on consumers and tech nerds in particular think they are doing so in order to share something with others. I believe they are trying to participate in activities they think others will gain value from, activities that others will care about, without understanding that by not putting forth the effort to actually do it they’re indicating that they don’t care about the thing in nearly the same way as people who put time and thought and energy into actually creating the thing themselves to share with others. it goes way deeper than “machine bad” or even “machine under central control bad” and points more towards groups of people who do not mean the same things when they use certain words. unless some form of translation is put in place that is bi-directional, communication on the topics using those words just isn’t going to be successful.

Someone put a book about Premiere Pro CS3 under Fantasy / Sci-fi at the local public book shelf 😂
Pixelfed for Android (v2.0.1) is available 🥳

I was surprised that #DungeonCrawlerCarl made it onto a bookstore shelf here in Germany. As in the English editions. I was tempted to get em all, of course 😁
Alas the bookstore also halfed it's Sci-fi shelf to cram in more Harry Potter so I left again.
Je demande à mon envoyé spécial sur le terrain à #Rennes s'il y a du monde pour la mobilisation étudiante:

@futurebird well, I'm not American or lived through the 70s, but my lived experience is that the words that have preceded most decreases in my quality of life have been "opening this service to the private sector will help make it more efficient"
Minor feedback, when selecting a Push Distributor in Fedilab, an internal app name is being displayed ("io.heckel.ntfy") which isn't what I was expecting (was expecting the human name, "ntfy").
It isn't a big deal, shop talk - these are super close for Ntfy. What if, though, Ntfy was internally com.example.MyTestApp? (I'm exaggerating of course); my user instincts say it should be the human friendly name being displayed in Fedilab.
@nokke
Thank you. I have bookmarked your feedback for Tom to look at.

also a lot of these projects don't even disclose they're using LLMs (probably because they know gamers hate it!) so they're sowing distrust and cynicism in what were previously communities that people participated in because they were passionate about it. some communities (eg the Doomworld forums) have understandably already banned posts of such projects.
and speaking as someone who's made several "wacky" mods - it took me all of a day to add fishing to ZDoom (in any liquid surface, catching fish with randomized names and appearances). the claim to have done anything special by slopping something out is depending on newcomers' ignorance of what's long been possible with good tools in the existing vast domain of fan creativity; it's appropriating the prior coolness of those in a very real and disingenuous way.
the entire point of doing an open source port / reverse engineer of a game is to make a previously locked off proprietary thing more of a public good, that can be studied and modified and preserved into the indefinite future. a codebase that's just an inscrutable alien artifact that no one understands or wants to touch does not advance any of those goals. it's a novelty for grabbing momentary attention and a waste of everyone's time. pathetic.

So, I want to set general expectations before kicking things off officially.
Yes, We Distribute is launching a #Bonfire community and will be collaborating with the devs to build a unique flavor of it. We're still in the process of getting the basics set up, so please...be gentle.
I still have a few chores to do before pulling some levers and migrating our old Akkoma accounts over, but I'm really excited! We've wanted to do Bonfire for a long time!

ohhh is it actually good?
you think this one hits for someone who is not familiar with green lantern?
ive been so let down by most comic based media that when something new releases i rarely even consider watching
@BrotoSolar@app.wafrn.net
I was not familiar with the comics either but I saw the series with my brother who was a bit more familiar with the whole plot
I really like what they did with the characters, focusing more on character development than action scenes and fights
i think about this line from Dune frequently these days:
“Once men turned their thinking over to machines in the hope that this would set them free. But that only permitted other men with machines to enslave them.”
