@MoritzGiessmann If you've been on Twitter for a long time I guess our layout looks RTL to you because it is in fact opposite of Twitter's, and your screenshot recreates Twitter. Matter of habit?

Wowww, the Stanford Geospatial Network Model of the Roman World is really fucking cool. It's an interactive map that gives you a sense of the flow and time to travel of information/goods between different geographical points in the empire during different seasons and by different modes. Basically there are counterintuitive flows to a modern eye because, for example, crossing a mountain in the winter was an enormous task in a way it is not now.

I was browsing the "hyperproceedings" of the 6th International World Wide Web Conference from 1997 and found this cool paper that proposes a method for servers to collaborate on tasks together in decentralized and asynchronous ways:

It's very "fediverse" and it's actually giving me some new design ideas...

(Stumbled on this conference because I follow the wayback_exe bot on Twitter:

#Smithereen update: collection sync, something no one has done before, again. Collections are fetched automatically on first follow, and there also are admin buttons to force fetch them at any time.

"Mapping the celebrity #NFT complex: Where do celebrities even hear about 'bored apes'? Who is recommending that they buy one? Is this really the best thing any of them can think to do with their money and fame?"

If you ask me, too much top content is still self-referential.

I was invited on the Look Both Ways podcast, episode "Community Memory & The Decentralized Web"

Next weekend I'm going to do an update on the "Who to Follow" section of this page:

Any key folks you think I should add in terms of those thought leaders on things Fediverse, Openweb, Indieweb and Decentralized tech that are also on the Fediverse?

https://indieweb.social/about/more

Yes. "The #Fediverse needs more developers."

"I ran through the 42 repos of every site in the Social Media category, adding the notably absent Diaspora, and I get a grand total of 76 active developers. Looking at the commit logs and pretty graphs I’d estimate that putting it in terms of full-time developers, we’re in the single digits."

Excellent thread on the state of permanent adolescence that now characterizes American adulthood, and its expression in perhaps the worst genre of literature ever inflicted on a literate people.
