Tonight's movie night movie will be, "My Cousin Vinny (1992)." This is one of those classic comedies I kept hearing about forever and simply never got around to watching, so tonight we shall watch it. Hopefully it's all right. 90s comedies are sometimes a bit hit-and-miss for if they hold up or not.
@montyhayter ah yeah I remember we watched that awhile ago. Kids enjoyed it enough. If I remember right, it felt like it had wasted potential though.
@bigzaphod Definitely wasted potential — unsurprising that there wasn’t a sequel, even though they very clearly left the door open for one.
But then, the same could be said of a lot of movies.
@bigzaphod It holds up! Quoted regularly in my house.
@bigzaphod Be prepared for all your boys to fall head over heels for Marisa Tomei.
@bigzaphod
Some of the gags may not age well. Pesce was at his peak popularity at the time. But it definitely has its funny moments, some of which endure in modern culture.
It's an excellent film.
@bigzaphod Imagine you’re a deer…
@bigzaphod It’s excellent. It’s so weird to me that this film was directed by Jonathan Lynn, who before it made British political sitcoms. He also did Clue.
@bigzaphod It’s one of my favorites so I’m excited for you to watch it! ATP did a review of it as a member special a few years back and they were kind of lukewarm on it.
But FWIW, it’s very popular among lawyers who generally say it is a good representation of a court case.
@bigzaphod Look forward to hearing what you all (especially the “yoots”!) think of it.
Our movie night movie this week — which we finished just before we lost power last night — was “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” (2010)
It wasn’t bad, and both Nic Cage and Alfred Molina have some delightful moments, but it’d be nice to see the movie it could have been with a better script, preferably unconstrained by a PG rating.
