@davidgerard I think I remember that. I'm still into them as a result.
It was longer than a month. It wasn't the only strange music trend of the 1990s. Scatman John had a hit song. The Charleston was remixed into a Eurodance hit. There was a swing revival. "Cotton Eye Joe" remix.
Look up a song called "Hobo Humpin' Slobo Babe".
@davidgerard Ah. So that's how all the demons of hell were unleashed.
@davidgerard Still must have a CD somewhere - you know, those plastic and aluminum discs that we were using to listen to music before mp3 players (you know, those small devices... oh damned modern times)
@spacehobo *one* sea shanty, to be precise
Ah, those were the days.
Coming up at the Ministry of Chant.
Coming down at Café del Greg.
@davidgerard I was one of them!
@davidgerard
I still have those CDs .
@davidgerard I was in my 20s then and I don't know if he's joking
Have you HEARD the Benzedrine Monks of Santo Domonica?
Music for hard times. (And yes, I have the OTHER one this refers to.)
@davidgerard @Lazarou
Didn't that start earlier, in the 80s with Kyrie by Mr. Mister?
(Not a proper Gregorian chant, sure, but flosting the idea of using that sort of stuff in pop music.)
@davidgerard was a whole different Era back then.
Obviously I have the track in my ears from just reading this.
@davidgerard I blame Enigma, personally. 🤔
@davidgerard 't was the Summer of '96 🎶🎵
(Ameno by Era released in June of 1996, I take no responsibility for any earworms)
@davidgerard I remember Enigma - sadness part 1 was on Now That’s What I Call Music 19.
