We are approaching an uncertain reckoning between society and technology. Either the creators of technology can be made to remember that technology serves society and not the other way around, or we will be victim to their eschatologies until the bitter end.

Google's misstep with schools is an opportunity to remember how human learning is, and how little the process truly relies on the infrastructure the tech companies have been selling for 2 decades.

And to be clear, we can prevail. But we will have to accept at the societal level that the shiny baubles offered by these ghouls are cursed, and we must not play with them. We have to accept things that work well, but perhaps with less polish. We have to build for ourselves.
