I have heard that exact framing a lot. It's basically the design profession's revenge on the power that developers have held in the past not understaning that they also made themseves redundant to management.
@tante It's the logical next step after getting rid of 80% of designers by making sure everything is low-effort, flat silhouettes. They even duped most people into liking this, because it's mOdERn.
@tante and it happens the same in the other direction: just using LLMs for "decoration", because the coding is the actual soul of the program.

@ArneBab @tante yup. AI output looks brilliant in domains you aren't proficient and idiotic in domains you know. Training doesn't make AI more intelligent, it makes it better at pretending it knows.
This is why you get designers who think "it's great at coding but not at design", devs who think "it's a genius with design but sucks at coding", and CEOs who think "it's the best at everything" 🙄
@loucyx @ArneBab @tante As a chess master, I can assure you that AIs in fact do vastly exceed the very best human grandmasters at chess, and are far beyond us. They exceed humans in many other ways. What you write is very toxic. We should be extremely concerned about AI's soaring capabilities. The exact same type of AI which is best at chess just helped win the Nobel Prize in chemistry a couple of years ago. AIs are engaged in a growing crime wave.

It’s been 25 years since Deep Blue beat Kasparov and computers got at least Factor 4000 faster since that time.
Deep Blue was no AI.
AlphaGo showed that computers can do game-specific pattern matching better than humans.
More than 15 years ago, it won against everyone in Go.
But it is not what current LLMs are.
They are not training on clear conditions, but are slopping up the internet and claiming the results good.
@tante Recombined machine scraped visual design (AI) is really obvious, once one is aware of it. The dead giveaway is 'way too much text and formulaic layout. It fails the nearsighted person's test of "take off my glasses" and try to figure out what is trying to be communicated. More text and clutter is not better.
