Just realized Harvest, the invoicing service I use, went from charging me $13 a month to $133 a month. Good fucking lord.
@aphyr aaah like with Meetup, Miro, Komoot and others.
@aphyr (sigh) I think I worked at one of the companies you're taking sidelong shots at, and if it's not, I still couldn't recommend them because they did in fact try to become an accounting package, without hiring any actual accountants. The same leaders as made that decision still run the show.
@owen What I do not understand is that QuickBooks Online is ostensibly accounting software and yet the single most important thing it does, the data structure at the heart of literally everything they do--the ledger view of each account--is buried three layers deep in the navigation and forces you to generate a *report* each time instead of *showing you the damn transactions*.
I ended up rolling my own after being similarly surprised by Quickbooks (although not nearly as _quickly_, yikes). It’s pretty bespoke to my pricing model, but I’d be happy to share privately if you’re interested.
@alexras.net oh yeah Quickbooks has been on my shit list for years now. I'm only with it because of my bookkeeper and accountant, but have sent them emails asking if I can switch to something else.
@aphyr uhhhh what the fuck
@aphyr that seems deceptive. Just duplicate the last digit so that anyone casually looking through their statement might not notice a change.
@aphyr That’s just an AI hallucination. The extra ‘3’ in that price is nothing to worry about.
Oh right this is Bending Spoons' fault: https://aphyr.com/posts/427-rip-harvest
RIP, Harvest
