let it all out!
These are the things i could do without.
Thank you to all the developers and instance administrators! 💓
(Shame on those who stir up controversy for ideological reasons, seeking the worst in people who dedicate their time to improving the technology that enables the use of an open social web! 👿🤬)
Thanks, Lemmy folks! I have been, and intend to continue to be, intending to put up a server.
I’m sorry, in advance, for what is going to happen to all your hard work, as Reddit craters and all the oligarch bots start coming here to manipulate the populace / control the narrative.
As I’ve been saying since Usenet and Slashdot; it was good while it lasted.
They’re already here. If someone tries to fight with you unreasonably, leave a clarifying comment and let it go. They’re not as prolific here, but if you spend any time in news or politics communities, you’ve seen them.
Good callout, thank you! A tale as old as 56k: don’t feed the trolls.
Well, not all of them. Some of them are a stain on this earth.
Let’s keep it respectful.
Respecting Tankies? You might as well be asking me to pay respects to Adolf Hitler, fat chance mate.
You don’t have to respect anything or anyone, but if you’re going to post disrespectful things (like calling people “stains on the earth”) I’ll have to ban you.
We get it, you hate tankies a weird amount.
LOL.
You might want to take a closer look at the Lemmy dev before getting too excited.
There was some drama with piefed dev too recently. Seems like loads of fediverse projects are run by weirdos.
Most cool things are the product of weirdos.
Dude is a full tilt tankie, that’s not being a weirdo it’s being a fascist.
We get it, you were educated in the US.
Yeah, that’s kind of the sad flipside of things. Seems like social media has an issue with attracting weirdos to its places of power.
Well, the lemmy devs are transphobic and the piefed dev Rimu is a bit of a jerk with additional accusations of a censorship list after a huge blowup surrounding a front-end called tesseract. There’s other posts about it there during that same time frame.
It’s a big reason I switched to quokka.au as it uses a fork of piefed called PyLova which I find to be stable and good and the developer is way nicer.
Edit: to be more clear, Tesseract was developed by someone else and that person snuck a secret censorship list into their project. While Rimu’s filter was only slightly less problematic, it had a checkbox at least, it was very unclear what it actually did and caused a huge (well deserved) fuss.
People are upset when the find out the Lemmy lead devs are like straight up authoritarian communists.
Mostly Third-Way-Reddit-liberal refugees who don’t realize they’re not progressive just because Fox News calls thier party “radical socialist leftists” constantly, these are the same people screeching that America only votes for leftists for Senate some places because there wasn’t another choice and that what b the country really wanted was moderate Dems.
Also the Piefed devs; didn’t they get caught hardcoding a block list into Piefed or something? I know there was a lemmy front end that did that (Tesseract; I made the list yay!) but not long after that Piefed got caught doing something similar but I don’t recall exactly what it was; all I remember was that I decided I no longer trust Piefed and I won’t use it. Shit I’ll try and search it and see if I can come up with a better answer
It’s not a secret and it’s not hardcoded.
https://join.piefed.social/2026/08/13/what-piefed-blocks-out-of-the-box-and-how-to-unblock-it/
Lemmy devs aren’t communists, they’re state capitalists. The difference is they support the state, and Karl Marx said it’s not communism if there’s a state.
Piefed didn’t hardcode a blocklist, that was a hoax. There’s an auto-federation tool that only admins can use, and it has optional limits on what communities it auto-imports. People took screenshots of that code and lied that it was a blocklist.
Fortunately, piefed’s controversial feature was a checkbox in the settings that an admin can easily toggle on/off, unlike Tesseract that had a hidden hardcoded list. And as you are probably aware, our .zip admin gives us users the autonomy to block stuff ourselves, so that wasn’t really that big of an issue.
Piefed dev for involved in a disagreement about something, made a post explaining how correct they were, and deleted responses from the b other parties involved.
I don’t remember the details but it’s not constructive to a healthy community.
Piefed is fine. Otherwise, PyLova is a fork by a different dev team.
so is MBin or Pylova safe from this controversy
They’re Tankies.
You probably want to avoid their instances like lemmy.ml or lemmygrad.ml unless you like to root for the tanks in the Tianamen square massacre.
So a few corrections:
Tankies aren’t a bad thing, and it’s a nazi dogwhistle as pointed out by your link.
Being a ‘Tankie,’ isn’t a bad thing, it’s being anti-nazi. The Term was invented by nazis, to criticize the soviet union crushing a nazi uprising with tanks, barely a decade after they won WWII.
The tanks in Tiannamen square were the good guys. Objectively so. Maybe don’t root for the CIA?
Please be smarter than you are. The people that own every aspect of your life are obviously going to lie to you to keep you under their ownership. It takes very little to debunk their lies.
oh no
but i hope that someone who isnt rooting for world war 3, is probably gonna fork it
Thank you everyone
whoever downvoted this, is the CEO of reddit
Its because of Lemmy being built by pro-genocide, pro-authoritarian, anti-trans communist Republicans.
Tankies aren’t republicans. And I am pretty sure they’re not pro-genocide. Or pro-israel, for that matter.
but hopfully we could fork it and probably have a better time
Or just use Piefed.
Ai slop enthousiasts
Dont forget the instance operators who actually keep the servers running. Donations keep instances up.
oh yes your right il edit my post to include them
And if you can, send some money their way. This place runs on donations.
If someone knows how to code, helping with their favorite projects is greatly appreciated too.
oh yes you’re right
shoutout to mbin and friendica devs when
