Man... I spent my childhood wanting an Apple computer, wanting to use Mac OS, wanting to write code in ObjC, adoring how pretty it all was while also being confused by weird shite FOSS weirdos say cos I was a little computer nerd completely out of his depth financially and a sense for justice I didn't know where to direct that brands as well as these sorts of weirdos so wish to exploit...

it was this unreachable little object of good design and care.

And then I finally get a MacBook in June 2026 and Apple begins to rot and die.. how's this fuckin justice :(

Why foldable phones? Who uses a foldable phone? I've never seen one outside of an ad or product placement? And I even like the idea of Samsung Z Flip cos that's the one foldable that actually presents an advantage: it gets smaller when you fold it. These large format foldables are too large when folded and too small when unfolded, paradoxically.

Touch laptop? Why? Who wants a touch laptop? It's a shit gimmick that hurts your forearms. It's a bad tablet...

Who wants an extremely thin iPhone? What am I gonna do, use it as a bookmark? Prop up the leg of my shaky chair with it?

Remake the iPhone 8 goddamit but without the glass back. Make a cheaper laptop with plastic exterior that doesn't get too cold to touch in wintertime outside California... Make a switch in the OS Settings app to disable "Data Detectors", let me highlight tables in PDFs in Preview...

@librarysquirrel the glass back shit is *insane*. I had a personal Redmi with a glass back only because Apple did it, and a work Galaxy A02s with a plastic back. The plastic back was strictly superior in every way except looking pretty. The fuck do you want to put a shattering back on a phone, the front is already shatterable.

@davidgerard I am currently using a Galaxy A36 and it has a glass back and it's slippery as hell. I can't use it without a case on. It literally slides off of flat surfaces. It slides in my hand. It's a fucking bar of soap...

But I can't use it *with* the case either, because it's already too large (please let me have a 4-5" phone, I want my Galaxy S3 mini back...), but with the case on it's literally painful and I can't reach the edges of the screen w thumbs. Now I do kinda have little kitten paws but idk, I think people without shovel hands is that small a market, we deserve something that fits...

And this thing is soo heavy.. it's like 2-300 grams with the case on. I have to support it with my pinkies the poor things are aging at double speed

Why are we having all this?

It's because you can actually get by much more than fine with an iPhone 8 and a MacBook Air from 2020.

There's literally no need to buy anything newer or with more hardware capabilities unless you have specialist needs.

Even these 6 & 10 year old devices are massively overpowered and we need all that because computing power is used extremely inefficiently. We're at 19th century steam engine levels of inefficiency.

Apple could keep making brand new iPhone 8's and MacBook Air M1's, ofc, but then you aren't selling a fresh new gadgets every year. You're selling long life appliances.

Apple et al are trying to work around market saturation, they're not "innovating". They have the hoover problem.

"Everyone's got a hoover now, what do we do? Make it Dyson. Put Smart in it. Make colours. Pull a Stanley cup with it. Express your identity with your hoover now. Young amd sexy hoover, anyone?
