@ai6yr Mrs had a “second mom” go missing in the Marble Mountains years back. Never found.
@ai6yr Read that recent story about the woman & her daughter in the PNW who were mauled by one or more grizzlies. Even thinking about the condition of those bodies is unnerving; actually knowing their condition would screw most people up permanently.
@ai6yr Ive found that family and friends usually they want a body found because it gives closure. But we work a lot of HRD cases. Live find need has decreased in my region as cell coverage has increased.
@Myotis_cuniculus Eventually... but not for a bit. But, could be sampling error, the people I am running into looked me up due to my finding a few people... clearly looking beyond the local search and rescue teams for answers.
@Myotis_cuniculus I probably would stick myself as being called about the same time people are looking for mediums and psychic readers 🤪
@ai6yr Ah, yeah I get the call early on for live find, and for HRD as the search progresses or our team does a lot of water HRD (when you die you still smell, gasses and odor breaks the water surface, giving dive/drag teams a smaller area to look - bit more complex as there is topology of the bottom in play, plus currents, plus wind, but it's what we train for).
I have found (in interactions with families whose loved ones have gone missing in the wilderness), no one wants to find the body. Nearly all of them hold out hope their loved one miraculously survived... but the usual answer is:
