@neil five cats. not an issue. 😁
@neil Can you explain how the "Humane trap" works?
You catch it alive and keep it terrified for a while. You can't keep it as a pet that would be inhumane for a wild animal. It's vermin so you can't release it on public land. Likewise no private landowner will be willing to accept it.
Just asking.
We let them be where we can. But when we can't use scissor or snap traps for a quick humane kill.
Smaller rodents if easily caught are subjected to the overarm fling from the patio.

It is a box, about 30cm*5cm*5cm.
I've out in some crushed biscuit, and some water.
I'll check them in the morning and, if I have a mouse, I'll take it a kilometre or so away, and let it go.
@neil My experience of catching rodents in the house is that it involves quite a lot of screaming on the part of all involved.
Plus patience, a blanket that you can throw over it, and a long stick to wiggle behind radiators and under cupboards.
@darkling These traps have worked twice before, so let's see!
I say "The Mouse", but it could be "A Mouse and their Merry Men"...
I have a mouse!
@neil Teach it to do crimes.
Joking aside, if you're planning to release it you need to drive it shockingly far away. I was doing live traps last year; tagged a few mice with nail polish, released them almost 3 miles away, and caught at least two of them again (could have been more, the nail polish wears off pretty quick from what I understand).
@notthatdelta Mice have tiny nails - I am very impressed that you managed to paint them!
@neil that was quick!
@neil and now what? We caught one similarly a few weeks ago and released it "sufficiently far away from the house", but you still wonder.
@bert_hubert I mean, if this is your mouse, then it has certainly travelled well!
@neil @bert_hubert mice apparently love little cars. Oops, its rats.
@neil Can't tell from the photo, is it USB or Bluetooth?
@neil They're up dancing around in the wee hours to this.

@neil Peanut butter?
I had a mouse in our loft a while back, so trapped it and released it in a field about 1/4 mile away. A couple of nights later, more scratching, and I do the same again. Then again.
I think it was on the fourth time, my OH said we should take it further away this time. So we drove a couple of miles into the countryside and released it there. Never heard from it (or any others) again.
Could it really have been the same mouse returning?
