I’m angry and sad that my friend and fellow donkey care-person @solane has finally been harassed off of the Fediverse by misogynist and fascist assholes. Because the people who design the mastodon app and moderate instances won’t do simple things to make Mastodon an inclusive place, we won’t be able to enjoy her charming #asstodon posts anymore. And her compassionate voice for the besieged people of #gaza will no longer be here. We’ll miss you, Solène.

@woozle @impermanen_ I've been on 4 different servors. Many people here are criticizing the Fediverse, many people are harassed. I am not the only one. Yesterday I wrote an article about a woman who was harassed here, nobody believed here. No one. I had the chance to have the support of some people here who believed me. It was unfortunately not enough considering the issue. I decided to stop trying to change things that cannot be changed and to join other kind of action to support Palestinians.
@solane Best wishes to you in that endeavor! Yes, the fediverse does have some issues to address. Problems are being solved, over time, but we do need to be more effective.
@woozle @impermanen_ Yes. I am extremely naive and have no experience of social network except in here. I thought I will succeed in convincing people to have an inter-servor protection system. But after months of talking here and there I must admit it is impossible. It is a shame because the Fediverse has a lot of potential. Please tell me when you will start welcoming people from Sudan or Myanmar, I will come back.

I'm inclined to put a large part of the blame on the (too few) mods at masto social, though the software design also has a lot to answer for.
Here at TootCat, for example, we fediblock assholes* and defederate from instances that won't moderate them. There are many other well-moderated instances available, too (many of them substantially larger than ours).
I'm very sorry @solane got harassed off -- and this is hardly the first instance of this I've heard about; it happens a lot, which is too much.
* the idiomatic kind, I mean; no offense internded to donkeybutts
