They are cracking down at work and everyone needs to wear their ID badge. The reasons are sensible enough, there have been bomb threats at schools around NYC so all of the schools are trying to be more secure.
But, I think like most people I *detest* lanyards.
I've settled on a belt clip but thought I'd ask others who suffer under the ID badge wear it. Do you have a method you like?
i knot my lanyard up so it wears more like a necklace. causes it to bounce/sway less when im walking
@futurebird retractable belt clip here. We got a message from management a few weeks ago that it had to be worn above the waist, but no one actually seems to be enforcing that so I’m sticking with the clip.
I don’t think I’d mind wearing a lanyard, but I keep my badge in my purse when I’m not wearing it and the lanyard would just catch on everything. Also I imagine it gets gross after a while.

Lanyards never bothered me, I have many in different colors and patterns. Lots of vendor branded ones. I prefer softer thicker material otherwise it's like wearing a shoestring. I sit at a desk all day tho.
@futurebird a guy with a spouse with great taste wore their badge clipped to a "lanyard" made of vintage ties. It sat flat against their chest and wide around the neck. Two ties sewed together, i think. I was always very envious. It just looked so sharp and distinctive.
Personally i wore the retractable belt clip one.
@futurebird Yeah, I wear it on a clip on my belt on a retractable cord (we have to badge in at the elevators and doors to departments.) It's fine. It works.
@futurebird I have to use my badge as a keycard, and I also carry a bag of tools everywhere, so I clip a holder with a retractable reel to the shoulder strap of my bag.
@futurebird retractable belt clip also for me except i got tired of severing the cords. with n times a day pulling to at least 1/2 extension they only last a few months before they break - they're not user serviceable to fix, rendering the rest of it into environmentally unfriendly waste.. so i got a beefier metal one with a more powerful spring and the cord is actually a metal chain. i guess it's for a security guard's keys, designed to retract something much heavier than one id badge.
@futurebird I clip mine to my hi-viz vest but that probably isn't helpful
@futurebird Maybe I'm weird (ok, I know I am) but lanyards don't bother me. I shove mine in my pocket when I'm using power tools or visiting the goats, but otherwise it's a non-issue for me.
@futurebird belt clip for decades. I’ve never been a lanyard fan.
@futurebird Clip on. Usually somewhere around my waist. But thankfully it's rarely enforced here, so if I have a pocket, I just put my card there. And it might not be a good method anyway if you wear sensitive clothes (which I avoid)

You will need something on your clothes to clip on to.
@futurebird I always used one of those cheap spring powered extensible badge leads and had it clipped to a pocket of my pants. (We had door lock scanners so that made it easy to grab to unlock doors)

Pants pocket clip for me, but that's close enough to belt clip I guess. Just sits a little bit lower for better visibility with tshirt.
At least they aren't making the students do it too. They realized too many of them would forget to take it off on the train and it's not safe for a child to wander around broadcasting their name.
Making a bunch of teachers follow a rule is even harder than doing it for kids, or I think other kinds of adults. This is a collection of people more aware than average of what is enforced, what isn't how and when.
So, if you don't have an airtight sensible set of rules it simply will not happen. Call it "teacher efficiency"
Also, teachers are the most annoying students, for the same reason. You'd better have a point and get to it, or they will start grading papers or zone out.
@futurebird I used to keep my work ID inside my wallet instead of on a lanyard or clipped to my tie. Then I got an RFID wallet and had to change to inside a jacket pocket.
