Dear peeps, I've got music creation friends with longstanding FB/Insta etc presences and I'd like to suggest to them that they add the #fediverse to their public profile.
So... before I do that... are there options to simply 'port' their existing postings from FB/Insta etc to a fedi (Mastodon?) instance/account?
These folk are... musicians... please be mindful!! 😂 (Yes, I'm one too, but have a virtual evil twin that's quite techy)
@MrPhosphorous @afewbugs now that's a thought that hadn't occurred to me, and I actually do share my occasional WP blogs to Mastodon myself using a plugin 🙄

Short answer is generally no, as far as I know.
Nearest I can think of is some Pixelfed instances allow import of Instagram posts but you have to check with the instance first if it allows it.

@nigelharpur I am going all in an tag @dgar here because in my mind if I connect someone with fediverse and music it's them (have to check the pronouns and will edit the correct ones if I messed up, sorry in advance...).

Hi @nigelharpur, apart from manually copying and pasting every post, I don’t know any way to just transfer content from Meta to the Fedi.

@dgar @AnnaSaultron thanks both! I had a feeling... although I see pixelfed mentioned as a possible cross post from Insta... will investigate that.
Reality is that most of these musos have enough on their plates without investing time in 'not another' social, and I get that. I abandoned all the corporate socials completely, but then I'm a 'sort of' retired old boy!

For musicians, Fedi’s lack of algorithms and advertising give us much more opportunity to create connections with our audience. I find on Meta and co, unless you’re paying for reach, you don’t get any. I made accounts on all the platforms to promote my music. After about four years, I rarely open anything except Mastodon now. Particularly this year, the other platforms have become absolute slop troughs.
@nigelharpur I have no idea how to extract those big platform data. But for every help about Mastodon, this guide helped me very much https://fedi.tips - you can also ask the author @FediTips directly, how your friends could handle a change!
