Woah.. later this month my gf and me are going to Italy for a few days to checkout the place where we can live for a few years to see if it's something!

We're both 33 now (34 soon) and this seems like the first actual chance to get something started

Very exciting but also scary stuff!

@stux Friends of mine did a similar thing in northern California, decamping from Palo Alto/Mountain View to kind of caretake an uncle's property way up in the Inner Mountain Range... It was a roller coaster, they ended up with property of their own, and have lived off grid in that region for 30 years, are a part of the community, all is well. It is not impossible!

There is no way in hell we ever get the offer to live ‘rent free’ for a few years to save up money for an actual home ever again so we’ll have to take it up

@stux Thought-provoking. The difference is that your landlord is less inconvenienced than the bank would be if you suddenly couldn't pay.
