This is the MAGA/GOP doubling down _again_, which is the most predictable thing in the world because it's literally the only thing they know how to do, and the only thing they have done my entire life.
Is Miller panicking because he thinks/realises the window for carrying out the rest of his Nazi wishlist is closing?
@FediThing "Moving higher in the power chain" and "panicking" are not heavily compatible. This is a massive promotion, so _personally_, he's in the best position he's ever been in.
If you want an evil vizier, Miller's your choice. And _even in the scale of this administration_, Miller is _particularly_ evil - cartoonishly so - and patient. Shitstain used to think he was weird, even if he liked him... but how he's Chief of Staff?
I suspect this means Miller's got his fingers deep into Trump's decaying brain-meat insecurities now and will be yoinking him around like an evil bald sadistic Remi, quite possibly giving us what may as well be the Stephen Miller Presidency.
And that is, as they say, bad.
Fasten your seat belts. It's gonna be a bumpy night.

An additional thought: the _explicit_ fascists and white nationalists, the three-percenters and all those - they've already gone into "demanding violent revolution" mode.
So maybe there's your key to declaring insurrection, right? Have them start an _actual insurrection_, then use those powers not against their revolution, but to complete it before crushing them to have the power yourself.
How do you keep the average no-info American from falling for this bullshit yet again?
I think it's worth spending the time to try to figure out.
Fortunately, _because_ it will be such a farce, I don't think the money people would be onboard. As much as they have to lose in a Democratic era, they have _so much more to lose_ if they go in and it goes south.
I think if it happens at all, they stay on the sidelines - and maybe a few even switch sides. Not out of anything akin to patriotism or friendship with democracy, _obviously_. But out of fear of losing literally everything.
All the money in the world didn't win them this election, and they know it.
@moira Trump doesn't have a bench anymore - there are no more competent people in the wings to step in and do the ugly job of CofS. He's used them up, burned them out, and they've gone home.
He'll try to stuff his children into his administration any day because (a) he's a lame duck and (b) he's an awful, demanding man and no one with a brain would want to work with him while it all falls apart around them.
@grumble209 Competence doesn't matter to him. It'll be the influencers and Project-2025ers who have been telling him to declare martial law, and people like them.
It'll be people like InfantryDort. (Or hell, maybe InfantryDort himself, if he even exists.)
What this _does_ mean is that, if it happens, it'll be a clowncar coup. It'll make January 6 look as clean and efficient as, I dunno, Bush taking out Noriega*. It'll still be violent and ugly, but more Hitler dead in a ditch on fire ugly than successful coup ugly.
(* Please Do remember: Panama literally declared war on the US _and_ shot and killed a US service member _before_ the invasion. That invasion was _legal_. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_invasion_of_Panama )
Here's the thing, right? The Chief of Staff more or less controls who in the White House gets to see the President. With him in charge, the furthest person left allowed to see Shitstain will be _Kegsbreath_.
I don't know that a pre-January-3rd coup is back on, but rule-by-degree and ignoring/overriding Congress _absolutely_ is, with the Insurrection Act drawn and a twitchy finger on the trigger looking for an excuse.
