Motorola has announced their new high end flagship phone including upcoming official support for GrapheneOS as an OS option.
Motorola Signature 27 will be the first Motorola device supported by GrapheneOS. More devices will be supported in the future.
@GrapheneOS Thanks for the info. Will GrapheneOS be installed? Or does one have to install it?
@GrapheneOS I hope this will be available in the US too and not get squashed by the big telcos like they have done in the past.
@GrapheneOS Congratulations 🎉
@GrapheneOS if you have connections, the Milestone 2 is worth a revival, just some better hardware here and there and pre-installed GraoheneOS, of course 😃
@GrapheneOS last time a kind-of open source Android community joint with brand was one plus collaborate with CyanogenMod, which was also a Chinese capital disguise as US company.
Hope you learn the history well and collaborate better with Motorola.
@felix196 It's a non-exclusive partnership and we can partner with other OEMs too. We'll continue supporting Pixels and it's going to be the same GrapheneOS with the same features across both. The differences will be hardware capability related. For example, we can support installing and using the Motorola camera app similarly to how we support installing and using the Pixel camera app.
Motorola Mobility is not disguised as a US company. It's a US company which Lenovo purchased in 2014.
@GrapheneOS I wish there was a more affordable option
@s0x41 A used Pixel 8a is the existing budget option. There will be support for cheaper Motorola devices but it will take time for those to meet our requirements. There will be gradual steps down the price ladder as the devices start meeting our requirements. It has to start at the high end where MTE, a secure element and good long term updates are available. It will expand down from there as that trickles down.
@GrapheneOS how it's the activation of Graphene OS?
@GrapheneOS @jjj I was so excited to try this and then bring SandFly support to Graphine OS, but it's far too expensive. Unfortunate, but not unexpected for a flagship.
@GrapheneOS do you know if this will result in these devices being "verified" for things like Google wallet tap to pay?
@tarajdactyl GrapheneOS can't be certified by Google so it won't be approved by the Play Integrity API. That means Google Pay still won't permit using it. However, there are multiple tap-to-pay options available for GrapheneOS in the European Economic Area and UK including Curve Pay. You don't need Google Pay for tap-to-pay in most of Europe. If you aren't in the EEA or UK then a common alternative is using a Garmin watch for Garmin Pay or an Android Wear watch such as a Pixel or Galaxy watch.
@GrapheneOS @tarajdactyl or just use a fkn card lol ..
@GrapheneOS @tarajdactyl
Graphene Team, any thoughts about https://walt.is/ initiative? Is it possible to add simmilar functionality to GrapheneOS (from the GrapheneOS)?
@GrapheneOS the walt.is wallet is looking promising. Do you think will be available for Canadian cards anytime soon?
@GrapheneOS or just use the damn PHYSICAL CARD is that TOO MUCH TO ASK PEOPLE
Like sure I get that you wouldn't want someone to snap a pic of the credentials... SO COVER IT WITH A STICKER
No, the point is getting rid of google, not advertising for them
@kevinrns @tarajdactyl We listed out the options such as Curve Pay and other alternatives in Europe or using a smartwatch for Garmin Pay or Google Pay. There's also the option to tap a credit/debit card directly as long as that's supported by the card. None of these options provides good privacy. All of those services have both corporate and government surveillance. Cash is the main private option or using private cryptocurrencies such as Monero but few stores take that.
@GrapheneOS damn, that makes sense, and was what i had feared; had hoped that this would change the calculus somehow if Motorola had any sway (but of course Google doesn't want to support an alternative OS)
thank you!
@tarajdactyl It should become much easier to convince apps to stop using the Play Integrity API or at least to stop banning GrapheneOS by permitting the verified boot key fingerprints if they won't stop. Apps won't be able to dismiss it as only an unofficial alternative OS anymore.
Once there are cheaper Motorola devices meeting our requirements, that will help with expanding our userbase. Our userbase size is a major factor in our ability to convince apps to stop banning using GrapheneOS.
@GrapheneOS Congrats! I'll have to wait for a more affordable model, but it's exciting to see Graphene options from Motorola.
That's great! Congrats @GrapheneOS !
@GrapheneOS Leute, das wird ein richtig dickes teures Teil... aber mit Graphene!
@GrapheneOS will there be an option to turn off disable Motorola AI at an OS level using graphene ?
@64bithero There's no AI to disable. GrapheneOS isn't based on the stock OS with Google Mobile Services. It has hardware support for accelerating the math needed by neural networks, not any kind of AI implementation included in the device itself.
I’m blessed to be living my best life, and I believe in giving back. ❤️ I’m giving out $20K to the first 10 people who message me “GRACE.” I understand that times are hard, and I want to help ease someone’s financial burden. Send your message to @manager4302. 🙏
@GrapheneOS yeah but it's $1500
and no audio jack, byyyye
@albinanigans @benjistokman It has a USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 port with audio output and also DisplayPort 1.4 for desktop mode. Most GrapheneOS users use wired headphones via USB rather than Bluetooth. There are good USB-C headphones available especially since Apple moved to USB-C for the iPhone a while ago. USB-C is going to continue taking over from nearly every other port including power cables for laptops and video output. It would be cool having two USB-C ports but it's too niche to expect it.
It's a huge upgrade over a Pixel 11 Pro XL with far over double GPU performance, ~60% better single threaded CPU performance and ~80% better multithreaded CPU performance. It has significantly better cameras too.
Here's the main page for the device:

@GrapheneOS : how will the camera support be in GrapheneOS? Will the picture be on-par with the Android version ?
@GrapheneOS
sounds great but with that $1600 price tag - it will not be an option for most users including myself... i hope the next model you support will be affordable.
Motorola Signature 27 meets all of our official security requirements. It provides a high performance hardware memory tagging (MTE) implementation from Qualcomm, a high quality dedicated secure element from NXP and we'll be able to provide 7 years of proper update from launch.
Pixels used to be officially supported by the Android Open Source Project. Android 16 dropped Pixel support and they're now much harder to support than many other devices. We have to do a lot of reverse engineering and backport QPR1/QPR3 Pixel firmware/drivers for proper updates.
Motorola is providing official support for GrapheneOS and has multiple engineers helping us port GrapheneOS to their devices and implement the required security features. We'll have what we need provided officially and can work with them to improve driver/firmware security too.
@GrapheneOS Thats one good news, grapheneOS now on something other than #Google #pixel
@GrapheneOS Someone asked if you get a cut of the phone price. I'm interested to know as well as that does help justify the price for me. There is something to be said about leaving the house in 2026, in Airplane mode with my tunes going, hopping in the car, bluetoothing my tunes over, cruising wherever with offline GPS and literally not even realizing I'm still disconnected.
Graphene, and self-hosting in general, feels so amazing, like the cord has been cut. Love ya, Graphene Team!
