I work in the complaints team of a well known energy company If you reply to an email with AI generated essays quoting legislation and other bull, you can guarantee we're not going to reply properly and refuse your claim
@Cyberoutsider @fesshole Same.
Someone mailing in saying "this can't be right, can it?" is very different from [3k char LLM generated pseudo legalese]
@Mabande @Cyberoutsider @fesshole Seriously?! "Hi there Carphone Warehouse/Curries/Dixons. I bought X. It doesn't work, even though I I sent it back twice for repair. It came back still not working. I'd now like a refund, which I'm entitled to under Sale of Goods Act..."
@Tarbh @Cyberoutsider @fesshole yes, that works fine too. Now imagine it massively expanded with autogenerated sales pitch filler.
It's not the "they're citing legal at us" that's the problem, it's the user of "AI" to do it.
(A company will know customers are entitled a refund under the Sale of Goods Act when the request comes in without customers having to tell them the specific law. If they need to be told the law it's probably better to report them and let the courts do it)
@Mabande @Cyberoutsider @fesshole yeah, but the companies I mentioned are notorious for just ignoring consumer rights, no harm at all to remind them of it means you get to skip a step or two of the dance they make you go through...
@Cyberoutsider @Mabande @fesshole I don't know what's hard to understand, there. UK companies set up in Ireland, don't bother familiarising themselves with Irish consumer law, act like dickheads. Even moreso than they do in the UK. (And Curries and Carphone Warehouse are actually the same company)
@Tarbh I think @Cyberoutsider's comment was about you tossing in Dixons (by any name) when fesser said "a well known energy company". (that's at least how I read it)
@fesshole another despicable being
@fesshole So instead of dealing with the complaint there and then, you instead make sure it gets escalated via a regulatory body and have to deal with it anyway?
I don't think this is the win you think it is...
@fesshole Interesting the other replies to this so far...
I'm actually all for what the poster has written - if you're going to remove the human element of the complaint by generating AI drivel that usually comes off as threatening in tone (quoting legislation at anyone is never anything other than a subtle threat about legal enforcement/"snitching to the authorities")... yeah, I can entirely understand that the person receiving it doesn't want to help you and will react in a similarly emotive way.
