I contacted a cleaning company again and I'm so sick of the "we need to see your place to give you a quote shit." Why does noone just charge by the size or the hour anymore then jack up the price if someone is so gross or something. Now I'm reminded why I just do it my damn self. I asked them to give me a range, because I don't want some randoms seeing my place if there is no way I'm paying their rates.
@nomdeb ugg all the ones here are so expensive, and I feel like when they want to see my place to give me a quote it means A. they charge vastly different depending on person, and B. they could be just scoping a place out. ugg
@sapphireangel We first hired the ladies based on a neighbor's recommendation. I have recommended them to many other of our neighbors since then. Do you have anyone you can ask for a referral?
@sapphireangel I do have some sympathy though for them wanting to see the home first. Every home is so different to clean - based on how much stuff you have, etc. What materials there are to clean. I don't think that's an unreasonable request. You could possibly ask people for a range, or look online and see if you can get an idea of average cost and decide based on that?
@nomdeb Most of my contacts aren't from here unfortunately.
@nomdeb sadly the person my old landlord uses is more than I'm willing to pay, and I used her for a while too for a short bit but she and I couldn't communicate well due to a language barrier.
@sapphireangel One of the ladies speaks very good English and my Spanish is basically made up of French hoping it's a close enough word ;)) mixed in with Hindi and German - my brain short circuits. But we do very well using online translators. In fact during Covid (we paid them to stay home) we had long philosophical conversations by text. :)
@nomdeb Yeah we tried to use translators but it didn't work great. 😞 I'm glad it worked for you guys though! :)
@sapphireangel We feel very lucky that our two housekeepers have been with us for almost 25 years now! I love that we have people who know us and our home so intimately and whom we trust implicitly. It's such an intimate thing, housekeeping for others.
