this is kind of a cursed way to display a date... but i also really like it?
no more wondering whether 09/06/26 means the ninth of june or the sixth of september (or the 26th of june). non-americans can read it pretty much as normal, americans will be able to understand it even if they have to flip the numbers in their heads. this gets the Lynne Seal of Approval
@stella yeah it's mostly the slashes. written without them, it'd look normal, but the slashes strongly suggest numbers. kind of like how "ten dollars" looks fine but "$ten" doesn't
@lynnesbian My provincial IDs here in BC have birth, issue, and expiry date in "2026-Jun-09" format and I've always been a big fan of it.
@lynnesbian
And federally, food labelling has to express best before dates as "2026 JN 09", "26 JN 9", "JN 9", or a combination thereof. And of course those month abbreviations have to be bilingual so they're a Government of Canada original:
JA — January/janvier
FE — February/février
MR — March/mars
AL — April/avril
MA — May/mai
JN — June/juin
JL — July/juilliet
AU — August/août
SE — September/septembre
OC — October/octobre
NO — November/novembre
DE — December/décembre
@lynnesbian *cries in ISO8601*
@lynnesbian this reminds me of the time I had to unscramble someone's spreadsheet in a technical library in the oughties because he touched the mainframe wrong and rearranged the year to run april august december february january june july march may november october september
I guess it's pretty clean if you're hand writing though
@lynnesbian whats cursed about it? feels very normal to me except for the slashes
