Oh thank fricking goodness https://www.neowin.net/news/affinity-will-soon-be-getting-an-official-linux-build/
"Affinity said that a Linux version [of the Affinity Photo/Designer suite] is 'in active development' but didn't say when the release will land."
@gurkenlabs I don't know. You could plausibly do this without "AI code assistants" by just hiring one single very motivated coder who has very specific knowledge concerning WPF.
I no longer trust anything which doesn't affirmatively ban "AI" contributions in its contribution rules, but if that's a problem then Pinta (the Linux art app I'm using now) is equally suspect.
@mcc does the 22% workforce cut at Canva include people working on this?
@http_error_418 I don't know. What I would hope is that the Affinity team was brought in as a unit and kept as a unit, otherwise I don't think they spent their money very well buying it.
@mcc @http_error_418 ough. Canva owns Affinity now? I missed that. Never been a fan of Canva, not sure why not...
@royalrex @mcc @http_error_418 Yep! Affinity v3 is free partly because Canva wanted to siphon users away from the Adobe suite and onramp them into Canva.
I'm clinging to v2 for dear life 😅 (unless I am collaborating with someone on a v3 project)
@cthos @royalrex @http_error_418 I don't trust them, but they seem to have been surprisingly good stewards in the case of Affinity specifically.
Regardless, I'm still sticking on… uh … a… actually I'm still on 1. I bought 2 when it came out but 1 was working for me and I never felt like seeing if I'd like 2 better or worse.
I assume any Linux version will mean bumping to 3. Supposedly, the differences between 2 and 3 are almost imperceptible unless you buy the (ghoulish) paid upgrades.
@mcc @royalrex @http_error_418 3 Combines them all into a single bundled app which has some interesting implications for the UX (specifically for me, since Publisher views are now mixed in with Pixel and Vector graphics views).
It's navigable but I did have to spend time figuring out where they had moved certain things
