The Republican National Committee is preparing to litigate a Colum win in Mississippi, should that happen. https://www.mississippifreepress.org/liveblog-mississippis-2026-u-s-senate-election-results/
The NRSC is demanding “county election commissioners and circuit clerks across Mississippi’s 82 counties separate and preserve all affidavit balltos cast in the Nov. 3, 2026, election. The move comes as incumbent Republican U.S. Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith trails Democratic challenger Scott Colom in the race for her U.S. Senate seat.”
seems like with 96% of the vote counted & most of the remaining to be counted from Hinds County (if I read that correctly?) then demographics and mathematics tells us that Colum, who is already ahead, has won this election
but it's Mississippi & will have to be fought for until the bitter end...
At this point does it make much difference? Perhaps a democratic Mississippi gives Democrats the filibuster killer numbers?
@Chancerubbage Adding to the majority is always good. Added importance of Mississippi: the state, which is and has been majority black forever has not sent an African American to the U.S. Senate since Reconstruction.
@heidilifeldman yes i didn’t mean to suggest a Mississippi democratic win is unimportant as much as ask exactly what battle GOP thinks they will win threatening a recount however they legally can.
Perhaps fuel for throwing other called elections into doubt?
Of course they will.
And if Colom is declared the loser, he should do exactly the same. No rolling over.
@heidilifeldman who didn't see that coming?
@heidilifeldman In case you need a reminder that *every vote counts*.
