"LaKesha Womack, an entrepreneur and minister, faced Republican Tim Moore, a heavyweight former speaker of the state House. Moore has an illustrious history in recent Republican politics: he helped oversee the state’s redistricting, and voted in favor of it — he designed his own district.
"Moore had funding behind him. Until March, FEC records show, he was diverting money from his campaign to help other Republicans around the country. He spent, overall, $1.9 million this cycle.
"But it wasn’t enough. He lost to Womack, whose campaign spent a mere $55,625."
