Every three months or so, the YouTube algorithm decides that all I want to see is clips from the movie MONEYBALL. I've never even seen MONEYBALL. But I clicked on a clip once, and Google knows that I am a middle-aged white dude, so presumably it just assumes that MONEYBALL is a load-bearing component of my personality
The comedian and podcaster Jamie Loftus used to do a bit where she talked about MONEYBALL as the centerpiece of what she called "the Boyfriend Criterion Collection"
You can really tell AI is not quite there yet, because if it was YouTube would understand that I am not the kind of middle-aged white guy whose personality is built on the movie MONEYBALL, I am the kind of middle-aged white guy whose personality is built on the movie MASTER AND COMMANDER: THE FAR SIDE OF THE WORLD
@jalefkowit on the occasional times when I venture into the sewage of mainstream video and social networking, they are all here are a bunch of things related to your interests and oh hey would you like a little bit of UFO conspiracy and how to conceal carry and a soupçon of "how I got revenge on my cheating wife"?
@jalefkowit No women in the movie, if I remember correctly
@jalefkowit I tried to watch Moneyball once but it had _so much_ baseball in it and I just fell asleep
@jalefkowit Fairly sure I've seen all of The Sopranos this way without ever watching a single episode.
@jalefkowit I logged out of youtube recently and forgot to sign back in. The videos it recommends are nearly 100 percent some flavor of "karen thinks she's cute. cop shows her otherwise," or "Arrogant cop shows attitude. FBI agent wipes grin off his face."
Now I know why one of my friends was always texting me about the karen videos he watches on youtube all the time
