Fellow USians! Want to make the Blue Wave stick? The incoming Congress will soon vote on new leadership — call your reps NOW to demand they REJECT Hakeem Jeffries as House Speaker and Chuck Schumer as Senate Majority Leader. These two have been feckless and fail to meet the urgency of the moment — the Blue Wave happened IN SPITE OF them. Demand better options (Warren, AOC, etc) who will actually fight for justice and accountability. Find your reps here: https://www.commoncause.org/find-your-representative/
Agreed.
However, there's still plenty of historical examples of a successful outcome kneecapped by the premature loss of leadership.
Transitions are sensitive. Institutional knowledge is key to getting the next generation of leaders ready for the future. Both Jeffries & Schumer should & could help in the selection of their replacements.
Trump won in 2024 because Biden was ousted by the donor class prematurely.
@Npars01 @bluejay Indeed, the transition is important. Chris Van Hollen has had his eye on the position for a while. He is a solid progressive, but is also well liked and seems to have good administrative skills. Would venture to say that he would be a lot less of a disruptive choice than Schumer. If Schume finagles his way in, there would be a huge party schism, that would certainly kneecap the momentum.
@Npars01 @mastodonmigration @bluejay no one is suggesting leaders without sufficient experience. Van Hollen would be a huge improvement over Schumer, if he wants the job.

“Both Jeffries & Schumer should & could help in the selection of their replacements.”
Would they, though? 🤨
@bluejay I'd like to see Jon Osoff in leadership. @mastodonmigration
@AlliFlowers @bluejay For sure. The question there is whether he runs for President (despite campaign promises). If he does, it would not be responsible for him to accept the leadership. Same goes for Chris Murphy, and Mark Kelly. Van Hollen is not the most dynamic, but is a solid progressive, and seems to be a good administrator. He is very well liked, so he might be a popular choice. Also mentioned is Elizabeth Warren, but she may think she is too old, or want to focus on financial corruption.
@bluejay
Not sure on this one.
Every project completed successfully faces a bad habit of ditching leadership during a sensitive & fragile time of transition.
Would the Iron Curtain & subsequent Cold War nuclear detente happened if Roosevelt hadn't died & Winston Churchill ousted by Labour over housing policy?
Schumer might have been key in convincing 2024 GOP billionaires out of joining in with Musk in 2026.

Jeffries kept a fractious group united & focused.
