This is worse than an PR stunt. To liken what algorithms do in a data center with what humans do in a university is just one more step in the "AI are people"-push and all the shit this contains.
@tante I believe it is a step in the right direction. These things shouldn't be a question of technology, but a question of power structures and societal values. And many mechanisms that drive AI critique also drive earlier technological revolutions. AI is not a new singularity, it is a next step in the enclosure of commons and capital which belong to society, otherwise known as theft. Technology itself is not "inherently" evil, it shapes perception and affordances, that's all.
