I’ve posted before about Leaders from Law, an organization I founded in the immediate aftermath of Trump’s election to the WH in 2016. Today I turned my attention to our upcoming workshop in Indiana this January.

Here’s the link to the Leaders from Law website, the mission statement page, https://www.leadersfromlaw.com/our-mission. TL;DR = we can’t sustain progressivism or U.S. Constitutional Democracy without progressive young lawyers retaining their interest in holding office. LFL gives them tools and guidance on how to keep that interest real and prepare to run. 2/

In 2020, I held a Leaders from Law workshop at the University of Missouri School of Law. There was a band of progressive law students there who were eager to host and attend. So I went, notwithstanding the long odds of progressives winning office there.

Figuring out how to coach and advise law students and young lawyers in a country threatened by fascism has been an enormous challenge. At times, I have wondered if I could in good faith continue to encourage young progressive lawyers and law students to run for office. By this past summer, though, I felt I HAD to keep going, especially with my usual focus on state and local office. 4/

In consultation with the excellent person I work with at the American Constitution Society, we decided to reach out to student chapters in places where progressives seemed relatively unlikely to win elections. We wanted to hold our first workshop of 2027 right at the front line of the battle against fascism.
