I've been feeling taciturn about the big old blue wave. Glad, but nervous because there is so much work to be done and I don't know if it will happen.
But there is one part that just fills me with joy. It makes my skin prickle with happiness.
All those little gerrymanders that backfired. (this is where they tried to rig state houses for more Republicans, but instead made districts more competitive.)

indeed my own rxn is also tempered with the knowledge that the answer is wayyyy beyond mere rejection of full on fascism. the dismantled education system, health care and the export of manufacturing needs a be dealt with.

@futurebird I share your sense of nerves. I don't know if we'll be able to take the next, necessary steps in time for them to matter, but I am relieved because after last night, we at least can.

@futurebird Same. I got called a buzzkill a couple times today when I replied to people gushing about the election that while I share their relief, this is the first step and not the last. All the work to make the world better is yet to be done.
@futurebird it’s poetic justice. But you are right that there is so much work to be done. The time and moment call for bold, expeditious action on a myriad of fronts. We will have to push the Dem leaders hard to get the work done.
Everyone at work was really happy. I kind of felt left out. 1000 yard stare won't go away.

@futurebird It's complicated for me too. I'm glad we have stemmed the bleeding but I am still heartbroken the Trumpists got as far as they did. Our fellow Americans are more hateful than I thought. Plus I worry about what insanity Agent Orange might pull now that his back is against the wall.
@futurebird I'm also relieved that physical intimidation and violence don't seem to have been issues at voting locations. It's not that long ago that I was sure that's what ICE was leading up to.
They needed it to be close to mess about. It was not.

OK I looked up "Hoist with his own petard" and it means one is tossed up in the air by the bomb they were making for others.
So it's the Republicans who thought they'd just gerrymander their way to endless power who have been hoisted by their own disgusting pasta plate looking maps.

@futurebird He already told fox what he will do. Use his veto to refuse to pass laws and use EOs to get his own way.
The only thing that has changed is the power of subpoena, and although I've heard a "sherrif of the court" or some title can enforce his presence but other sources suggest the DoJ has to do this, which is obviously a non-starter.
Nothing useful will get passed for two years. After that people will say the dems didn't do anything. Which will probably be true of the DNC anyway.
