Wow, THREE SEPARATE pedestrian fatalities at this one spot. East Wonsley Dr and the I-35 Frontage Road it appears.
8/2/26, 11/1/26, 11/18/26
Need to see what is particularly fatal about that location.
@ai6yr As a local, let me fill you in on some details: that area is economically depressed, and there are a lot of pedestrians there on the NW side of IH35. There is a Walmart (and Goodwill, and Cricket Mobile, etc) immediately to the east (the brown box behind TX HWY Dept). The closest underpass is at Anderson/183, which is a long, shitty walk around. So the desperate get brave and try it.
@ai6yr @phaysis Texas hasn't had a day without a fatality on its roads since Nov 7, 1999. Their roadway design choices mean they may never have another day without one. This is one example but it's systemic throughout the state. The last TXDOT engineer I talked to told me it's impossible that they could have a fatality-free day. The agency's mindset is to accept the human sacrifice. https://www.txdot.gov/safety/traffic-safety-campaigns/endthestreaktx.html
Hmm, what is going on here, I wonder. It's suicidal to try to cross over the I-35 (in general). So, they aren't going across the I-35. People walking and just getting run over at the intersections? Car stalled out, hopped out and nailed by passing car? 🤔
@ai6yr
And those obnoxious trucks with massive extended side mirrors that kill people on sidewalks
