@ajroach42 ohh. Sorry. I gotta ask, is there something i should know? No worries. I just made some pulled pork bbq and a beef chuck roast. The cooking helped keep me busy.
@bellegraylane probably, yeah, although I am perhaps the wrong person to fill you in.
The documentation is out there, and I don't want to re-litigate it all, but dansup has a history of inflamitory behavior, dismissing or minimizing mistakes, and attacking people.
I experienced this first hand when he picked a fight with me over something political several years ago. It wasn't the first time he'd come out swinging in defense of some very strange hill, and I was tired of having someone spew vitriol without provocation so I blocked him.
I have since learned that he has a tendency to behave similarly in developer circles as well.
He says and does reckless stuff and then tries to minimize it, sweep it under the rug, or justify it. When that doesn't work, he claims he's being attacked because he's gay or indigenous (while not acknowledging that the attacks almost always start from his side or the "attack" is just asking him for access to the source code of his open source application.)
He lies. He picks fights with contributors. He's volatile. He promises features he can't deliver, and talks about features that he's promised and can't deliver as if they already exist, and then tells the people who ask about those features or point out that inconsistency that they are attacking him. (These things are well documented, a cursory search for his handle will turn up at least a couple of very public apologies and a couple of examples of questionable behavior.)
And all of that is without getting into any specific personal issues, mostly because I don't remember them well anymore. I watched him behave poorly towards me and other people, I wrote him off.
I'm positive that, if you were to ask publicly, you'd get better answers (and possibly learn that he's made ammends and is doing better? I hope that's the case. I still don't trust him.)
@ajroach42 thank you Andrew. That was a detailed account. Noted. A developer acting unprofessional? Say it ain’t so!? Lol. I follow them here and on loops, but i have not seen them act like this. I do recall others mentioning it now, i thought it was someone else, tbh. I read a recent post by them and I did think it was odd how they wrote up their failures as achievements like that. Seemed a bit defensive. Hmm. Didn’t they make this space? These are weird and stressful times. I got here late compared to most so i missed the drama.
@bellegraylane like I said, it's been years since we interacted personally. I don't know where things stand today, I just know I won't use loops or pixelfed.
@ajroach42 hmm. Well injust recently started using both… Thanks for the info. Do you have any recommendations for alternatives? Or just another in general or sharing videos and photos? Self host?
@bellegraylane I post photos here, mostly. I don't like short form video in general, so I don't have any specific suggestions for replicating the tiktok dopamine slot machine, but I post videos to peertube. (I run a television network powers by peertube at https://newellijay.tv @video and offer paid peertube accounts on https://communitymedia.video I understand that there are other options as well.
