When it comes to accountability, the distinction between "looking backward" and "looking forward" makes no sense. We hold people accountable in part to affect their, and others', conduct in the future. 1/
@heidilifeldman Thank you for this, I was making this point to my mother this morning.
There is no getting back to normal with without understanding how the corruption occurred, without hearings and change.
Being timid under Biden allowed the rot to continue. The Supreme Court was understood to be taking bribes yet it was business as usual.
We expect our Representatives and Senators in the U.S. Congress to be able to multitask. They can investigate and hold hearings about the cesspool of wrongdoing committed by the Trump regime at the same time they do all they can to take affirmative steps to improve the U.S. 2/
First thing, start investigations of ICE using that hacked data.

There is undoubtedly a money trail to the public corruption to follow.

Next, investigate Musk's throttling of Ukraine's defense.
Which petrostate despot or oligarch paid for that?
Putin, Lauder, or #PrinceBonesaw?

@heidilifeldman And if they are actually in Washington working (unlike the current Congress), it shouldn't even be that difficult.
@heidilifeldman The improvements can't be coming as a surprise to them, it has to have been written down since ages and now just go through them step by step. It's not rocket science what is needed. Can put it on the back-burner to handle while dealing with the legal repercussions for illegal acts.
Republicans had Project 2025, surely there is something similar around for the democrats?
These two steps are in fact intertwined. We can't reform the Supreme Court, dismantle ICE or at least choke its funding, rein in oligopoly, etc. etc. unless we understand the state of affairs created by the Trump regime and the Roberts Court. Investigations and hearings provide information crucial to affirmative legislation. 3/
If your Representative or Senator -- incumbent or newly elected -- is pretending that affirmative legislation and investigations and hearings are two separate things, do feel free to crib from this thread and write or phone them to explain that you expect them to support both wholeheartedly. 4/4
@heidilifeldman I find it troublesome how the right-wing extremists always have some sort of plan when they come. It's a manifesto or big plan, lots of inspiration in Hitlers book.
But when the Left comes into power there is no big plan and they just fight between eachothers, letting the right-wing extremists point fingers at them and get more votes again.
Sweden is doing this right now, in worst case we are looking at nothing and the vote goes back to the right in a couple of months, all because the left and center haven't talked together before the election and now all the different left to center parties are trying to get a better deal or whatever. *Sigh*
@heidilifeldman Agreed. We can walk and chew ass at the same time. Pass meaningful reform and start up the subpoena mill. Restore the ACA and get committees rolling. Pass bills repealing Citizens United. Roll call votes. Make Trump veto it. And make a fucking stink when he does. Expose Elon and the other oligarch class for what they are—the real welfare queens at the pig trough.
