Vermont Has Spent Nearly a Billion Dollars to Clean Up Lake Champlain. But the Green Slime Keeps Coming Back.
---
The state kicked off an ambitious effort in 2015 to clean up waterways and meet tougher EPA restrictions. But after a decade and nearly a billion dollars spent, potentially toxic algae still lingers in Lake Champlain. What happened?

"Vermont has delayed tightening farm regulations..."
There's the heart of the problem. Agricultural runoff must be reduced. Period. The lake is warming significantly, has been for decades.
It seldom freezes over now, and the dynamics of lake overturn have changed. Nutrients and heat have caused algae growth to explode.
This is one of the most beautiful areas in the US.
What's happening to Lake Champlain is a tragedy.
