“Hoch hinaus” (Reaching for the sky)
Lady Liberty on a dark winter morning last March. Most are familiar with her torch held high. But perhaps fewer know that she’s not just standing; she’s stepping forward, walking over broken chains that symbolize the abolition of slavery — and perhaps more generally, victory over tyranny and oppression.
After the results of yesterday’s US midterms, I’m a little less ashamed to share this photo today. May this be only the beginning.

I'm feeling some relief, from Canada. Whether we like it or not, US elections do affect us.
