Every now and then Big Tech will shoot themselves in the foot and send waves of disappointed users our way. Yesterday was one of these days, as Google doubled down on their efforts to force AI down everyone's throats — this time school students.
So if you're a teacher, a school administrator, or know anyone on any school boards, anywhere in the world...would you kindly let them know that there is an independent European alternative with no AI? We'd love to talk!
@Vivaldi Knowing what we know about Google trading personal data and internet engagement for profit, I am perplexed by the idea that there are so-called Google Schools, where everything the staff and students need to function as a school is in a Google Worplace.
And, wouldn't you know it, the Forbes pages telling this story has been emptied.

Page-Rank was basically perfect. But they couldn't make ENOUGH money off it.
@Vivaldi Love to see you guys win! I have tried Vivaldi numerous times over the years and never liked it enough to stick with it, but I am completely blown away with the latest version. This browser is amazing and I will use it as my daily driver from now on. No AI is just the cherry on top for me 👌.

@Vivaldi is Vivaldi working on a search engine alternative? Or ensuring independent SE's are in the defaults? Just curious 😊 (DDG with AI answers off by default, or AstianGo which is AI-free)
@Vivaldi I gather this topic relate to use of Chromebooks in schools, where it seems, probably ilegally, the default browser and search engine are locked down to .. Chrome and Google (with AI) with Gemini AI always there if you want to turn your kids brains to mush.

I’ve been using Vivaldi since Firefox ´turned´ last year (year before?), after years with Firefox since giving up on Google decades ago. As someone on Mastodon said then, ˋno second chances´.
I am quite happy, but will not think twice about finding the next best alternative.

Speaking of disappointed users and forcing AI down everyone's throats, your relationship with @ProtonPrivacy isn't doing you any favours at the moment.

@Vivaldi But you use Chromium, you are still supporting Google by increasing Chromes usershare. I agree with everything else, but it doesn't make sense to call out Google when you are so dependent on them. The browser needs to be open source too.
