@EUCommission So why did you relax the EV targets and encourage manufacturers to pivot back to ICE?
I assume because you saw EU falling behind China which is true, but the answer is to focus on EV production at scale, not run away.
We'll all buy EVs anyway and if the Chinese ones are better then EU makers still lose.

We understand the concern, @klh_io. Most AI energy use now comes from proprietary systems with undisclosed energy data, which makes public scrutiny difficult. Our EU AI Act introduces obligations for providers to document and report energy usage of general‑purpose models, directly responding to these concerns.

We committed to climate neutrality by 2050 under the European Climate Law, and to cut net greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55% by 2030 vs 1990.
We are on track for the 2030 target: In 2024, EU net emissions fell 2.5% vs 2023; since 1990, they are down over 37% while the economy grew 71%.

@EUCommission The most dangerous number in the Paris agreement is the "year 2050". Politicians loudly pointed towards that deadline and ignored the number that actually matters: 1.5 degrees of warming.
The Paris agreement was a historic agreement. But it is very sad how it has been misinterpreted.
@EUCommission I would just hope for this to continue since if we stop this, we'll be experiencing more devastating fires and weather conditions.
@EUCommission This is not a success story. From 2016 to 2024 the EU reduced emissions by ca 57 Million tons per year. If you continue at that rate, you will miss the target of cimate neutrality in 2050 by 27 years.
@EUCommission if climate change would affect everyone the way it does the lives of the poorest 50% of the world population, we would be a lot further in restricting it. But ok, I'm trying to see the bigger picture. If the EPP didn't feel the far right barking at its heels we'd be a lot clearer committed to cutting EU emissions as well. But, let's look at the bigger picture. We're doing better than others? I'm trying to look at the bigger picture, because the details don't necessarily look great.

I do want it to be true, but we've blown through the Paris target of 1.5 C, and are still going full steam higher.
And now the right-wing politicians on the Commission and their fossil fuel industry lobbyist friends and looking to make policies even worse.
Kick out the lobbyists, kick out money from politics, and increase democracy & transparency.

Yeah, and what did you do to make it work? Where were the constants on the European Motor Industry to stop it from increasing GHG emissions? Not to mention the failure to move fast enough to renewables and other measures which you could have taken...
