I'm a commissioning editor and I'm up to the tits in AI-written submissions. They absolutely reek of laziness and stupidity. What's the point of wanting to be a writer but finding writing to be an inconvenience? I delete every one of them.
@fesshole I hate humans sometimes. Like why. Dont they feel disgusted with themselves??? Thats like me using autotune on my vocals. Nope. I'll feel terrible if I do. And this is 100000x worse. Do these people have 0 shame or what?
@fesshole And as with when I was having to use AI in a code environment - I love the writing process. I mean, it drives me mad at times, and I get really frustrated, but that is because I need to work out how to get through this particular block.
If AI could take my writing and get a publisher to accept it - that might be a valid use of it, but of course, it cannot do that.
The writing is supposed to be the enjoyable part.
This is why I'm no longer an associate editor for a scientific journal; "if you receive a review you have to accept it!"
Nope.
@fesshole
People just want the narcissistic supply that comes from having "their" writing admired, even if it isn't actually theirs. It's the same reason people on DeviantArt steal art and try to sell it as their own.
@fesshole Having somebody else write your books is not a new thing. AI made it dirt cheap to do and the quality (or lack of) is what was paid for. Not too surprising.
@fesshole as a former student of writing and literature, thank you for your service.
@fesshole I would charge double for them and be rich and prosperous.
@fesshole How about taking a step backward and only accepting submissions on paper via snail mail? It won't stop the most dedicated wannabes from printing out and mailing in their AI slop, but surely it would cut out the lazy majority.
@fesshole On the flipside, I'm a writer that doesn't get a look in because everyone wants quantity over quality.
@fesshole
I've met so many people for decades that want to BE a writer, but don't want to BECOME a writer.
That is that they don't want to write, but they want the perceived lifestyle and accolades.
@fesshole you should 100% be able to post this under your own name because fuck AI written nonsense.
Ran into the opposite side of that tonight.
"Please rewrite your long thing to be shorter so I don't have to read so much."
Um...no...?
@fesshole Claude, write me a witty response -
@fesshole the same as with all AI use: people want the profit and the acclaim without having to do any work
@fesshole
AI will, if nothing else, homogenize everything.
